If you care about genres, you are most likely missing out on a great deal of good music. Just listen, and try to forget everything you ever have been taught. Ever.
@Chickenviewer
@Chickenviewer 6 жыл бұрын
That's kinda dumb. We use labels and genre names because that's how language is used to share ideas. The scientific community does this so, why can't we? This has lead to doors opened because it helps me find more of the type of music I look for. "I like this artist, what's it called? Perturbator? And their music is called retro wave? Cool, now I can use Google to find more shit like it."

@@Chickenviewer I love death metal, black metal, nu metal, newer hip hop and rap and older hip hop. Classical, jazz, funk you name it the only music I don't listen to is generally most kind of of pop and country but there's even some exception for them. The thing is all these labels dont matter as long as you enjoy the music your listening to. I agree its fine to use names for music and no one ever said it was bad to use names but to limit yourself to one genre is closed minded. Also to compare art to science is irrelevant because science has set problems with solutions like math problems whereas music is subjective. Art should be explored with a open mind ya know.

@@elijahtxt2334 I agree with the close mindedness but that’s conditioning through society and governments, me being a black man people think I’m strange for listening to a huge variety of music/ hard rock , just like you my taste are almost identical to yours, but I’m primarily rock style is my first love, but I can listen anything even soul/R&B funk punk grunge a little bit of country and a little bit of pop, but I can’t stand much rap/ hip-hop at all

Black metal was a wave, it's over now. It was about being pissed off that we lost WWII. It was about being suppressed and being a violent, territorial European rebel who was forced to accept that they were going to lose their country, their people and their culture FOREVER.

The guitar tone and the roughness in the pick hand on the riff that starts at 3:48 is awesome. Also the choral sounding vocal in the first minute is really neatly constructed. Found this through clicking a 'sponsored post' on my Facebook feed. It said "For fans of old Ulver". How could I not? I told myself "I'm never clicking a sponsored link like this again unless this Myrkur turns out to be good! Thanks to the label for putting the money into that bullshit. It worked.

No, Black Metal can only be done in a certain way. Everybody who claims something else, does not know Black Metal. If you don't follow the way of trvue norvegian Black Metal, you need to put an addendum in front of Black Metal (just like "Atmospheric", "Melodic", "Symphonic", etc.) or you can call it Blackgaze. Or 3rd Wave BM, 4th Wave BM, whatever. But it's not essential Black Metal. Myrkur sounds great, btw...

People always bring gender into it, if you're female you rarely even have a chance in this genre! I'm not a feminist or anything but it annoys me because I come across this sort of sexism a lot in this genre. I really love the rawness of it, people are saying it's simplistic & so on, that's the beauty of it. The melodies are chaotic & beautiful at the same time. Even if you don't like it, you have to be able to at least appreciate the fact that it's one person doing all of this. Can't wait to get the album!!

Never heard of Myrkur before today, and at least so far I've absolutely loved everything that I've heard! A friend of mine had shared on facebook some interview where she tells about the death threats and other stuff, and I wonder how can people be so fricking childish? If they don't like the music, then they just ignore it. Well, at least all the hate gives her interviews and spreads knowledge of the music. I rarely like female vocals, but there's just something so beautiful about her voice. I have to hear more.

But this MYRKUR music is so far beyond, no, light years beyond those old classics. If Amalie Bruun had been around in the 80's, she would have been the most famous female rocker on the planet.
