I can’t stop rewatching this. This single take video is PERFECT. The pace, the smoke, the light, every nuanced move. I guess it wasn’t really choreographed, she just ‘winged it’ and it’s perfect. Such a wicked attitude and vibe. It just exudes such sinister, rebellious confidence.

The lord saw what he made Yeah, it was good Dripping from pearly gates I was luminous My name is Lucifer Pleased to meet you I harp six strings in the daylight Do you know what it means? Well, one moment I was ascending the heights Am I far from God? Morning star The next thing I knew I was falling fast Lightning hit my wings Heard thunder crack Pride had infected the depths of me Oh, I love these courts I loved that royal family You know it could have been you So don't you dare judge the things that I do Am I far from God? King woman I think are changing the genre of metal. With regards to the feminine energy ... this is a peak for women in metal/rock n roll. The authenticity of that "raw power" femininity is shining here. No sacrifices, no "female version of male" just straight up raw feminine power and feeling.... amazing...

Found this song trying to get over a relationship and the lyrics really stuck with me. Even tho we know what the lyrics mean. To me, It felt like what every failed relationship feels like. Feeling soo good and like nothing could go wrong to falling from the heights of being loved and essentially thrown away to wallow in your own misery and self pity.

This song has been out for a few years but it's new to me, as of today...and I'm obsessed with everything about it! This video, the vocals, the lyrics, the overall vibe...I have listened to a few King Woman songs here and there in the past and I didn't think much of them. This song is inspiring me to listen more deeply and intently. Her mannerisms and movements in this video are so badass! The second time she says, "Am I....far from God?" her face was purely evil! Amazing!

KING WOMAN, the outfit featuring songwriter, vocalist and “tour de force of gloom and woe” (Rolling Stone) Kris Esfandiari, return with their eagerly-awaited sophomore album, Celestial Blues. Feeling compelled to reshape the biblical archetypes that once bound her, Esfandiari has created a theatrical tale of rebellion, tragedy, and triumph - a metaphor for her own personal experiences over the years - Celestial Blues was born. Esfandiari sets a dramatic tone for the record with “Morning Star” echoing the primeval account of Lucifer's fall from grace. Esfandiari smugly whispers: “you know it could have been you / so don’t you dare judge the things that I do” - the fallen archangel in deceitful persuasion. Esfandiari is accompanied by the beastly drumming of Joseph Raygoza and Peter Arendorf's heavy-laden guitar flooding empty spaces with great fervor- masterfully stirring the listener with every sparse, emotional pluck. KING WOMAN once again takes us to church with hardcore gospel, “Coil". “Five wounds you rape me / but I resurrect” declares Esfandiari in unhinged jubilation. Esfandiari desperately begs to be absolved in the crazed offerings of “Psychic Wound”, ultimately regaining a powerful reflection of herself after a provocative and tormenting dance with the Devil. Celestial Blues is at once a masterclass on crushing atmospheric doom, and at times a sobering take on the weightier sides of shoegaze. At the album's core, a palpable tension can be felt. Acoustic guitars soar before descending into a darkness of riff-heavy distortion. Drums build upon these moments and explode into a cacophonous groove. Esfandiari's voice remains at the forefront; her haunting melodies carry the music throughout. Somber moments lead to burning intensity and crescendo. This ebb and flow is constant. Celestial Blues grabs hold and never lets go. Recorded in Oakland, California by GRAMMY-nominated engineer Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Amenra, Oathbreaker) Celestial Blues sees KING WOMAN take a daring step forward as one of the genre's luminaries, releasing one of the year's most evocative records.

Wow, its amazing how much a music video can change the tone of the song. The first time I heard it on Spotify I pictured a tired depressed lucifer musing on his downfall, her singing kinda gave me those vibes. But the video exudes pure evil playfulness, the subtle rage and jeer you'd normally associate with the devil. Kudos to the director and the performer! Completely entrancing!

This is really cool, I'm gonna have to look into more of her stuff. I'm a huge fan of Chelsea Wolfe and Emma Ruth Rundle, and I've seen King Woman in suggestions, but I never listened til now. Very cool. Also, what I love about Relapse Records is that they aren't afraid to bend the "rules" a little with who they have signed. So many metal labels refuse to do anything remotely different, so it's refreshing to hear things like this, or on the other side of the spectrum, music like Myrkur
