It is stated that' Shear stress tau causes tensile stress on BD and compressive stress on AC', a statement I agree with. These two linear stresses along BD and AC are, according to the notation established near the beginning of the lecture, each of magnitude sigma ( +sigma along BD and - sigma along AC) . However, at about 10:10 sigma is suddenly equated to the shear stress tau without explanation other than that the linear stress sigma is caused by the applied shear stress tau. Just because tensile stress sigma is caused by the applied shear stress tau does not mean sigma and tau are necessarily equal. I have noticed the same assumption slipped in during various other purported derivations on U tube of the relationship between Young's modulus, the shear modulus and Poisson's ratio. Actually, I reckon sigma and tau are equal but it was not demonstrated why they are. Sorry to be critical. I accept that the linear strain along BD and its relation to shear strain phi was shown in a very clear way.

would you please explain to me why is sigma assumed to be equal to tau here this point puzzled me too.

When you put lateral stain =1/m and linear strain to tau/E , it must get reciprocated and you didn't done that , how can we conclude it as correct

can you please explain how teta on the one hand is equal to shear stress over 2 times of shear modules while the main low of shear modules implies that teta is equal to shear stress over shear modules.. this is contradict-able!

Please help the relationship between modulus of elasticity, modulus of rigidity and passion's ratio. Thank you so much in answer keep safe ♥️

Sir Incase of relationship between modulus of elasticity and bulk modulus we take compressive strain as negative, but here we took compressive strain as positive. Why we are taking there positive and here negative?
@rathodjaydip58723 жыл бұрын
Because here we are finding lateral strain in diagonal BD due to linear compressive strain in diagonal AC and according to Poisson ratio lateral strain is always opposite in nature to linear strain so because diagonal AC has compressive strain it will induce tensile strain in diagonal BD.

why is linear strain equal to the total strain??? and why is thou representing tensile stress??????
