That's exactly how I felt after a perm, but in a hair sarlon. My hair just broke off. And they weren't dyed or anything, they just broke. And just before the wedding. Back then my hair was waist-deep, after that it was really short. My first husband wanted perms for our wedding, my regular hairdresser was against it, his hairdresser implemented it. I ended up Sunday mornings at 7 a.m. with my regular hairdresser, who tried to save what could be saved and preached to a curtain... My advice: if the man thinks your natural hair sucks, you should think the man sucks. Would have saved me a lot of suffering

Woman #2 is truly an inspiration. She has her emotions in check and knows the difference between circumstances that do and don't require a total meltdown. She admits her mistakes at the end and accepts the situation for what it is. And even with the depression she mentions, she still holds it together for her kids and realizes the consequences of letting them see her in freak out mode over this. That is a strong AF woman. Restrictions and laws don’t solve anything and wouldn’t stop people from relaxing their hair. I don’t have a license and can buy just about anything a stylist can. It’s everywhere for sale. Apart from that people will find a way. It’s sodium hydroxide that can be bought in many places. There would be videos on recipes everywhere. Yeah will never work. I’m against more laws and restrictions in most things. A few bad apples or dumb ones spoiling our freedoms. No ma’am.

I’m 48 and I haven’t relaxed my hair in decades, but in high school, girls relaxed their own hair and we were perfectly fine! We were not part of the nanny generation where everything has to be legislated. I also dyed my own hair between the ages of 20-40 something. When we were kids, our parents relaxed our hair and nothing happened. The people in the video didn’t have anyone to teach them how to do it right! That’s their problem.

Pro tip! Do not use relaxer on hair that has been permed, bleached, or vice versa. Your hair will melt! It's the same chemical reaction as Nair (hair remover cream)!!!

Thank you for telling us with curly hair that its fine the way it is . A lot of people think its a compliment to say some people look better with their hair straight and its not personally. I love my curls and the only reason I was afraid to embrace them growing up is because people made fun of how big my hair was but now i enjoy how voluminous my curls are because I've learned to embrace my natural .

I was taught my natural curls were "unprofessional" and looked too messy. As a kid I just put it in a pony tail. When I was a teen I got a flat iron and fried my hair daily for at least a decade because I thought I had "bad hair". It wasn't until I was in my late 20s that I realized my natural hair is beautiful. I hate I wasted so much time, money, and effort to try to meet someone else's standard of beauty.

I remember my mum taking me to the hair dressers as a kid for a wash and blow dry as she got her relaxer topped up. The owner of the salon looked at my hair and said to my mum "NEVER relax her hair it is too soft and fine". I am 40 and relaxer has never touched my hair.

I've seen the first video before, she's lucky she has a gorgeous shaped head because not everyone can rock it bald. Her neck is long and it looks really good on her. The second woman, I feel so much for her, I do understand her not wanting to break down in front of her kids but at the same time being honest with them is good too. I relapsed and then chose to recover and get it together. Part of relapse for me is that I just don’t give myself love or my hair love. When I decided to crawl out from the bottom of a bottle, I started with a shower, I could not stand touching my hair as it broke off (I am black). So I hopped out of the shower and just started cutting. I buzzed my hair off. The last time I did that was two years ago, before I got sober. For me, it’s kind of a reminder and a way to gain control of myself. A do-over. I want long hair and I loved it when I was sober and I took care of it. This, is a reminder for me. Just a story.

I watched a video yesterday where a girl went to get her hair bleached. She told the stylist that she got a keratin smoothing treatment. They realized after the bleach got hot, that she had a relaxer on her hair. She didn't know. Thank God they realized before her hair was gone.

I’ve seen that one too… If you don’t know what a keratin treatment is supposed to look like, then, well…they probably called him “smoothing” treatment or “straitening” treatment… relaxers are much cheaper. So if you’re unaware, it’s easy to be mistaken.

Second girl suffered from post partum depression for a year and she doesn't want her hair to be a reason for her to feel shitty. Black women know their beauty and how to embrace our natural hair (without relaxer) but sometimes the hair tends to be challenging, especially when you're a busy person like a mom or someone that doesn't have time to take care of the hair properly... you're just looking for a simpler way to deal with it on a daily basis. Relaxer are a danger but so are many other products and I'm glad people are more and more educated on the subject !

I have also heard that ethnic hair tangles really bad. Correct me if I am wrong, but does relaxing it make it less maintenance. I remember working next door to a salon and this poor African American kid was crying for 4 hours straight because her hair was severely tangled.

I really love your uplifting words for these women. However I get the urge to relax curly hair so it's easier to take care of yourself when in a depressive episode. It was absolutely heartbreaking watching that beautiful woman lose all of her hair. I can say she is so lovely that she would look awesome with a buzz cut or even completely bald but that's easy to say. I really respect the courage and strength but she must have pulled deep from inside to not go into a rage and start blaming the product and everyone else. I severely broke my leg and crushed my ankle in summer 2021, requiring three surgeries. Due to the stress and anesthesia, my hair later fell out in clumps. I was growing out a Pixie at the time, but had to have it cut short again. It was demoralizing. I nearly cried for these ladies. Hair DOES grow out, but it is SO important! i know you prefaced the conversation with saying you aren't supposed to talk about it, but it was very important for you to address the subject of the stress hair changes. We see our friends do this, we sometimes do it to ourselves, but you see the aftermath of these stressed hair decisions in your salon probably pretty regularly. As such, you should most definitely speak to this subject, not as a healthcare professional, but as a compassionate person who cares about what is going on under the hair at least as much as you care about the hair processes in general. This happened to me post-college. I had virgin brown hair with bleached highlights down almost to my waist. I was tired of straightening my naturally curly hair every day. I bought a relaxer online and failed to read “do not use on bleached hair.” All the highlights and the last several inches of my hair was fried - like wet tissue paper. Went to the salon and had 8-10 inches cut off my hair. It was devastating. Although I did rock a chin-length curly bob for several months. Aphogee, deep conditioning with a heat cap and Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream brought my hair back to life.

I have to say, her hair wrap at the end of the video looks stunning. I know she did it to hide the mistake but it looks so elegant. Very classy looking young lady. I hope her postpartum ends very soon and she can enjoy life with her kids to the fullest.

I had some Red and a Darker colour in my hair before Christmas and Hair Buddha, you are going to love me as i had it done at a professional Salon with an experienced Colourist and with gowns and towels to protect my clothes . It is January and the colours are still bright and fabulous.

why we perm? colourism, texturism, hair discrimination, racism. yes in Europe too. in maaaaaany sectors natural hair is unemployed hair. the lighter the skin the more tolerable the curl.

That second one had me tearing up. For a mom to understand that if she breaks down in front of her girls over her hair could cause them to feel bad about themselves if they ever had issues shows how much she loves them. Going bald is a huge decision so being forced into t that way could be devastating. Fortunately, she looked great and could pull it off!

Why is it when these people are noticing all their hair breaking off they stand there commentating on the damage and not washing it straight off? Hair Buddha has saved me on quite a few occasions!

I looked online to get rid of mypink hair dye - and all results said baking soda and dishsoap... fortunately, i went vack through your videos and found the videos that said Dont do it!! Thankyou for saving my hair HB 😁
