Its so amazing to hear how different and difficult life was back then. One bath a week? Geez.. you know everyone was probably stinky. Lol. Working hard in the fields in the hot sun and only bathing once a week!? Lol. Just something im thinking about.. and you had to make everything! Your house, furniture, clothes, food... amazing how spoiled we are now... incredible. You're doing a great service by sharing these stories.

So, Laura Ingalls-Wilder doesn't mention a lot of things in her stories because it's not "polite" to talk about such things but people washed their more intimate areas more than once a week for certain. Just like they washed their hands and faces (and in cases of going barefoot, their feet) daily. Certainly things like antiperspirant didn't exist the way they do today, but scented balm for dry skin and powders existed for women especially. Women on their periods absolutely washed often too. Under clothes were changed daily and were used as a sort of protective barrier for their outer garments to keep them safe from body oils/sweat/smells as well. In short, no one smelled constantly like cucumber body wash and secret extra strength 24 hr, but people weren't as bad as you'd think!

We used to have a bath in a big basin when we were going we didn't get a bathroom till I was 15 only had an outside toilet.but we used to boil water and wash every day sponge wash our body's .
