Relaxing. Feeding Racing Pigeons on the Ground

Gone are the days when I tried to make sure the pigeons are only in the air training or in the loft. I like to feed the racing pigeons on the ground. I think it is also beneficial especially at the hard races when they might need to feed on the ground for a few days if the race is very hard or they get lost. Better feed on the ground than in another loft. I also think that interacting with the local soil and flora makes them stronger, healthier and more adapted to the environment. They consume a lot of greens and stuff from the ground, especially when they grow youngsters.

Hi Andrei, the pigeons are looking well and also the dog. The birds have no fear of the dog which is so nice to see. Are you getting to race anytime soon. We have been put back until at least the end of the month because of damn bird flu. At least it gives me time getting things ready to wean the youngsters away. Another great video. Stay safe.

Hi Graham. We already did 3 trainings at the club, the first short distance race comes soon, but the weather is horrible, cold and rainy. I filmed in those few sunny days we had. Stay safe and enjoy pigeons.

I don't feed more than 10-20% of their meal outside so there's no problem when I call them in. They don't even go on the ground much when they don't raise youngsters, but when they have growing youngsters in the nest they would even eat me, lol.

Most of the fanciers prefer medium pigeons. Pigeon size doesn't really matter but I prefer small pigeons. Also most of the short distance pigeons are bigger than the long distance ones.

Nu are treaba. Nu reusesc sa o invat la rapitor, sufera de prea mult entuziasm si se uita aiurea, se precipita, alearga in toate directiile cu exceptia celei bune si se duce naibii tot dresajul. Cea pe care am avut-o inainte sarea sa ia uliu din aer, mi-a si salvat cativa porumbei.
