@@gaming_time2479 10 1/2 foot medium weight fast action Rod. Believe I had a Mitchell 300 series real, was using 20 pound braid with 20 pound fluorocarbon leader. Best of luck I hope you slam them.

what size pencil weights do you bring? i understand it will vary of current speed. Also where do you buy your jigs from and pencil weights. Are you throwing just the hair jig or adding skein? thank you
@reliablyrandomoutdoors
@reliablyrandomoutdoors 2 ай бұрын
Just jigs no skein. I was using a feather jig, Hair is also fine, the pencil weights I don't remember the size but get the bigger ones, because lead is soft enough you can snap them off with fishing plyers or even hemostats, so i start heavy and then reduce weight by cutting the lead off. I like the feather jigs best because they do a good job of holding some air in them, i think thats why i had better luck with them than the hair jigs. BTW I mean whole feathers, not mairbou down. at least thats what i was using that day. BTW i had ordered them online, not sure if i saw any whole feather jigs in the bait stores up there or not

@@reliablyrandomoutdoors awesome response thank you! Any idea where you ordered from? And for weights are you talking 1.5oz or more like 1/2oz?

Make sure you bring 4 to 5 different sizes, as the depth and flow changes all the time. Match line speed with current speed.

So,. I'm in the area for work. I don't know anything about kings. Are they still in there this time of year?. Nice video. I'd pay for someone's expertise to hook me up on one of those. Resident of ohio here. Working in MI for a bit.
@reliablyrandomoutdoors
@reliablyrandomoutdoors 9 ай бұрын
the run on kings is pretty well passed, though there is is a lot of anomalous behavior so sometimes you catch those oddballs late like this. Steelheads would be good to looke for up there right now And I live in Indiana, I do guide work but would be pretty pricey to get me up there this weekend. (Not impossible though) Otherwise I could give you a contact for a guide up there who I know well.

What rod and reel setup were you using?
@reliablyrandomoutdoors
@reliablyrandomoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I was using a 10.5ft medium heavy action rod with a Mitchell 300 reel. I used 20lb fireline (braid) for the mainline and 20lb Seagar flouracarbon leader.

@reliablyrandomoutdoors
@reliablyrandomoutdoors Жыл бұрын
It was a black feather jig with a 4’ flora 20lb leader. I used a slip weight on the main line. Main line was 20lb braided fireline. That was a pretty common setup for tippy. Is that where u are headed?
@jeffreybrown4001
@jeffreybrown4001 Жыл бұрын
@@reliablyrandomoutdoors yes that is where i am headed. We visited last month and was checking it out and it looks great. I'm traditionally a fly fisherman, but want to give this a try. If i do manage to catch a salmon it will be my first ever.

@@jeffreybrown4001 awesome! It gets kind of crowded down there but there are plenty of fish to be caught! Most people are using pretty long rods. I used a medium heavy 10.5 ft rod. I thought it was BS till I hooked up w the first big king. I’ve caught 40 pound catfish and they didn’t fight anything like the kings do in a river! The extra length helps you stay hooked up when they start thrashing. Honestly it’s the most exciting and challenging to land fish that I’ve ever caught

@@reliablyrandomoutdoors what type of line (lbs) did you use? what type of leader (lbs)material? I dont have a rod that long, I may have to run to Cabela's. anyway to get the egg beads, hooks, line, ect..... so..... Thanks for the info... Is there a proper ettiquite if you hook one??
@reliablyrandomoutdoors
@reliablyrandomoutdoors Жыл бұрын
@@jeffreybrown4001 20lb floracarbon leader. 20 lb fireline mainline was what I was running. They use king leaders like 4’ usually so use a barrel swivel small enough it can go through your eyelet if needed. Most of the people are cooperative and will move out of the way when u get a big one on. Just let me know. Oh and skeen is the membrane that holds the eggs together. So they all call fish eggs skeen there
