My husband and I saw you and all our favorite groups almost ever weekend in SF 1968 to 1970. Your music is still our favorite music! We were newlyweds then and grew up there! Drove down from Santa Rosa where we lived while finishing military stint and working at the news paper. Back in Wisconsin later our 5 children were raised on your performances any way we could get them. They too appreciate your music dear to our hearts. So sorry about your lose of Paul and Marty too! Brilliant writing and musicians are so missed. Also Jorma and Jack, Spencer and CSN&Y. Santana, Bongo Santa María, and so many more. We are your age so we forget too. Felt sad to leave but did the Spiritual Search you spoke about here in this video. All true! Love hearing you say “Yahweh”. Genesis 1:2

I watched/listened to all 3 parts of this interview..and was VERY impressed....not at all, I believe, by Grace's "celebrity", but so much more @ how her experiences have brought her to where she is....NOW. She seems to be a very "Republican" kinda' person (balanced, family centered...in a good way)...but someone who's been through/experienced, in many ways, the high and lows of cultural change for the last @50 years...and survived. Was Grace ever really a "radical"?

The voice of a generation... we are still haunted by, because of the future that never came.... a prime example of hauntology. Organised religion does nothing but others, labelling beliefs destroying unity. Grace mentioned the only valid other, which has no name, no religion, nowhere and everywhere.

Popular misconception. The roman catholic church has little to do with true Christianity. Its roots are clearly in paganism and its traditions. Right now they're celebrating saturnalia, which is sold as Jesus his birthday, yet the Bible never mentions his birth day. So christianity didn't do the crusades really. Not to mention that the crusades were a reaction to a problem? Also the twin towers wasn't brought down by some cavemen, but by the people who are steering this world into an interesting and crucial direction.

She has some interesting thoughts, but her history is wrong. Middle Easterners invaded the west. The Reconquistador didn't happen because Spain didn't want to regain its country back. The Crusades, while greatly twisted in the day by opportunistic Lords and Kings erroneously seeking blessing from God and the Church, were a direct response to the Eastern Roman Empire being conquered by Eastern Muslims, especially since they had invaded as far west as Spain. They tried to invade France, but Charles Martel held them back at Tours. He just happened to be Charlemagne's grandfather. It is popular today to say that the Crusades were commissioned because people wouldn't accept Jesus. They weren't. Especially the first Crusades. They were commissioned to reconquer Jerusalem following Muslim invasion. This is all very important to get right in any idea of interfaith tolerance. The Crusades were commissioned by the political arm of the Church, not the religious arm. The historical context cannot be looked at through modern eyes. The Church was constantly at risk from military invasion. Kings wanted God's blessing on their kingdoms, but they also felt they should rule their lands without the Pope telling them what was right and wrong. And, most felt they were ordained by God, and should be their own Pope anyway. Even in light of that, the first Crusade was called as a pilgrimage by Pope Urban II, not called as a military expedition. It became that when Crusaders came across the struggle, that they were previously unaware of, between Eastern Christians and Muslims. After all, there is no longer a Constantinople. Its Istanbul now. That isn't because a bunch of Christians just decided to force the world to be Christian. Rome had struggled with that for sure. As did converted Barbarian kings after the general fall of Rome (there is no one event that is THE fall of Rome). However, there were always a St. Francis of Assisi there to remind people that forced conversion was not what Jesus taught. This is all stuff we need to get right. Not only to get along, but to understand why there are radical Muslims wanting to kill the infadels, and non radical Muslims who remember that the Quran calls Christians and Jews "people of the book."

umm... nope, learn more .
@KevinWale
@KevinWale 8 жыл бұрын
LOL Um... do teach then because Constantinople was the capital of the Byzantine/Eastern Roman empire from the early 300s. Isreal was invaded by Muslims in the 600s. Pope Urban II commissioned the first pilgrimage to the Holy Land in the early 1000s. Learn more what? The military aspect of the Crusades developed from the discovery of the Levant invasion in the 600s. You know, the Muslim Conquests started by Muhammad himself.... Do you think they just appeared one day in Levant? So, what do I need to learn? That when Abu Bakr was established as Caliph, he didn't really begin the strike against Byzantine? That Charles Martel didn't really stop Muslim invasion into France? That the Muslims didn't really invade Levant? That the radical Muslims aren't really different from non radical Muslims (an expansion on the dissension dating back to Muhammad's death when it was thought he preferred his son in law Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was more against fighting, to be his successor, thus the Sunni/Shia division that fuels Sunni radicalism still today)? I'm not really sure what I said up there that isn't true. I minored in history. It isn't exactly a secret how the Crusades went. Constantinople fell to the Muslims in the 1400s. They didn't just appear there without invading either. Her account of Crusade history is revisionist at best. It isn't as simple as Christians went to kill a bunch of Muslims. Even if it is that simple... Muslims went there in the first place to kill a bunch of Byzantine Christians. Since that isn't that simple either.... I think people should probably stop blabbing rhetorical Hollywood quasi historical oversimplifications.

She meant that Middle Easterners didn't invade _America_. She even said how upset Americans would be if someone came from someplace else and told Americans how to behave. She's not wrong about either of those.

MalcolmO Well, based on how a good part of Europe is faring at this point we in the US should be VERY grateful that an ocean and SOME semblance of laws (but mostly geography -unfortunately )have limited the #s of Islamic ppls into this country it’s simply practical and statistical probabilities -there WILL be an attempt based on the extreme elements of this fanatical “ religion” to enforce their “religious”laws on us(sharia)no doubt about this

Grace came out of retirement in 2001 and more or less supported the invasion of the Iraq wearing Middle Eastern female Garb so she is not an expert on world affairs she's run-of-the-mill liberal educated left-leaning College Academia perspective on World affairs but but that does not mean that is the most astute or progressive view out there
@aemk6129
@aemk6129 3 жыл бұрын
Retirement from what? Was her point supposed to be progressive? Astute... sure, if you can understand and see the direction. Its not implied that her intentions were your assumptions. Which clearly shows how listening can work wonders... judging her isn’t necessarily “proving” anything. She’s being asked questions and is answering them from her perspective. In 2001 when she came out in a burka was about persecution of middle eastern women... lest you forget, she had an American flag on underneath that sad “fuck fear” on the back and proclaimed to love liberty... kind of changes the dynamic if you understand the intent...
