Whatever the other commenters think or write, having a royal family who contributes to the country and works for its success and well being adds to the sense of continuity and pride in their history. We seem to want to throw the beautiful elements of tradition and historical pride away these days because it isn't "pragmatic." Sad, sad, sad! By the way, these two people are very attractive and serious about the wedding. Tears are beautiful! In this cruel and nihilistic world it is good to see people respecting their faith and seeking God's blessing. He does exist--if people are open and seek him.

Just a couple of small glitches! I don't think the Prince realised it, but part of the reason that his bride was crying was that he was crunching the knuckles of her hand together so hard that it was excruciating!

to understand that, you should know that this is a constitutional monarchy, which means that we in the Netherlands have a pure form of democracy, the king has a binding role, but not absolute power, he signs the laws passed by the members of the parliament. The parliament consists of representatives of different parties, they represent the people and are elected by the people. there is no single dominant party or person who rules the country, but they are different parties trying to find an agreement with each other, in which case they try to find a way to meet the people in their interests and the king signs. no king no democracy. it has been working for us for 200 years, before that we were a republic, but there was a lot devision in the Netherlands.

@shay75100 I did not say this church (not cathedral) was not beautiful..but the Cathedral of Stockholm is more Catholic than this. Also the reformed church of Holland has no priests whatsoever, only pastors belonging to the priesthood of all believers. They are not consecrated in the apostolic tradition. In Stockholm you saw one archbishop, two bishops and one priest - but the priest was male. If you do not have the Catholic view of the priestly office the sex does not matter.

For Netherlands is a bit strange as for Lutherans, but the Orthodox wear a wedding ring on the ring finger of the right hand. It is also a habit in countries where the influence of the Orthodox Church was relatively large (Finland, Latvia, Estonia, etc.). The Catholic, Western manner of wearing wedding and engagement rings on the left hand is very slow to come in, as widows used to transfer the ring to the left hand and wear it either during the year of mourning or throughout widowhood.
