I can totally understand that…I wasn’t there at B.S and wish I was. Must’ve been so cool, Strings does have it. I’m going to NY Pier 17 in June so that should be cool. But yeah the last GD/JG SMR 95 brings me to tears 😭 every time. Billy Strings has it. My years were 81-95 w GD … these days I like going to PL&F more so than D&C … it’s that thing I can’t explain but if you were there you probably get it. I still go to D&C but it’s not the same. (Sorry but I just cannot look at JM..he bothers the shit out of me and D&C just seems too commercialized now and idk it doesn’t feel the same …but that’s just me)

Its an underrated masterpiece, and it has that added weight of Jerrys last performance. Any rendition is going to be judged against one of the most powerful moments in GD history. I cant see any of the other post Jerry frontmen being able to pull this off.

Billy doesn't just sing this song....... He *deserves* to sing this song. Someone coming from the counterculture, with more than three times the talent he would need to be accepted by the whole world. Absolutely incredible. I’m 24 and just recently got into the dead after seeing D&C this past September. I’m absolutely obsessed at this point, and so many roads has become one of my favorites. I really like John Mayer in D&C, but I can’t imagine he could rock this song as good as Billy Strings does right here. Jerry will and never could be replaced, but Strings and Mayer are doing a great job carrying on the tradition. I’d love to see Strings on stage with D&C sometime

At one GD Madison Sqr Garden show, where the taper section transitioned from metal stands to concrete section, an usher is assigned to check tix for access to the floor. The usher takes his glasses out, reads the ticket, and then puts glasses away. By close to start of the show, 3 people stream by for every one ticket checked. By the end of show, the usher is completely turned around and dancing to the Dead. I elbow my buddy Dan, and we share a silent laugh.
