I can give you a suggestion on using powder coated bullets the pressure is higher using a powder coated bullet you might want to shoot some of yours through a chronograph and I definitely wouldn't be on the higher side of the load data like I said just a suggestion enjoyed you video thanks

These look like the Federal Syntech I normally use for shooting steel targets.

How do the Syntechs perform and are they a good analog for traditional ammo? I haven’t tried them yet.

Love my Lee Classic, great versatile press. I load .380acp thru .45-70Govt with mine. Had to 3d print a disk for the .380acp.

You have to fit these into your barrel for the plunk test. If not they won’t cycle through a semi-auto pistol!

I was wondering about the crimp on you coated bullets. Every one says a light crimp. What does that equate to. Like .379/.379 or .378 dia. after your Lee factory die. I hope this question isn't too dumb.

The way I determine crimp is to use a factory bullet in the crimping die. I loosen the crimping die, insert the factory bullet and then tighten the crimping die until it stops. This way, when I run a reload through the crimping die it gives me the same crimp as a factory round. I'm not sure what the diameter would be, but since the bullet is .356 I would guess the crimp is .355 or thereabouts. Thanks for watching!

Hello, what charging data do you use? The one for copper bullets or the one for the lead bullets? Thank you

Do you add any kind of materials to your wheel weight alloy to harden it or is powder coating enough to prevent leading? Thanks!
@ncshootist
@ncshootist 5 жыл бұрын
I don’t add any other metals into the wheel weights and I haven’t had issues with leading when using Alox or powder coating.

What if my bullets are 115 gr? What load data would you recommend? I'm also using Russell Houghton same powder as you, but have 115 gr cast lead bullet

Here’s a good resource www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol According to Hodgdon you can use the same load for cast bullets as you do for lead jacketed of the same weight.

is there any advantage to powder coating as opposed to copper jacket or just bare lead? it seems like it would make it more difficult to recycle lead
@ncshootist

If you’re casting your own lead bullets, it’s supposed to help reduce leading in the barrel over conventional methods like Alox. As far as recycling the lead, I’m not sure. Once I shoot what I’ve cast, I don’t bother recycling. It’s easier to head to the junkyard and buy new wheel weights. Thanks for watching!

I haven't ever had barrel leading from cast bullets out of a pistol. Use a hard alloy and it's just not an issue. Even hot .44Mag loads out of rifle shows no sign of leading. I personally don't see a need for this.

I have a glock (polygonal barrel) and I want to shoot cast reloads through it. Would you recommend buying a new barrel for cast bullets, or would powder coating and bullet sizing be enough to shoot with my stock glock? Thanks. Nice video.
@ncshootist
@ncshootist 6 жыл бұрын
I’ve read on forums that shooting powder coated in a Glock barrel is fine, but I don’t have a Glock so I can’t vouch for that so you may want to do more research. Thanks for watching!

I know this is a couple years late, but I used to own a Glock 22 (40 s&w), and I ran a lot of cast bullets through it, never had an issue with leading. I have a video on my old channel about it, I did have some jams, but that was just because I hadn’t seated the bullets deep enough, once I got that dialed there were no jams.
