I hope all of you who are on the fence about whether or not to reload, take the plunge, and get started. To me, it’s almost like therapy. You can spend as little, or as much, as you want on a set up. Components (primers and powder) are higher than giraffe nuts right now, but if you are reloading for pistol, a lb of powder will go a long way. Fun hobby. And doing load develop is a great excuse to keep going to the range!

..I started 50 years ago with an RCBS Rockchucker that I'd bought through the post Rod and Gun club in Illessheim, Germany...presses, dies and components were ridiculously cheap then..at least compared to today's usurious krices

I love my Lyman All American 8…I use it for all my rifle reloading…my pistol reloading is handled on my ancient Dillon RL450 (it’s never failed in over 30+years)…decapping before wet tumbling is left to an equally ancient LEE C press…excellent job on this video guys 👍👍👍

. Would've been nice to have had this series 50 years ago in 1974 whenI came home from Germany with my RCBS ROCKCHUCKER and hadda teach myself how to load .44 Spl/.44Mag .308 and 9mm...used the then available Speer manual to learn everything I needed to know...

When I started loading back in late 70's, there was always discussions about full lenghth sizing rifle brass, or neck sizing, the latter thought to make your brass last longer! Would like to get your thouhhts on this, and at what point or number of loadings do you diacard your brass? What guidelines do you guys use? Thanks for this series, it is great to look at no matter how much experience you have, always find something new to learn.

I was getting stuck cases with Hornady spray lube and Lee 223 sizing dies. Lee recommended their own lube diluted in distilled water and a spray bottle. Put brass in bag, give it a couple squirts and shake, let dry. No stuck cases since.

I use the factory crimp as well, the only thing I would add is you don't have to trim....as often. It does not eliminate trimming. Head spacing is the critical dimension anyway, this I learned the hard way. Some dies are not as precise as they should be (a rare thing, I was the unfortunate recipient, another story), some shell holders either. The head space gauge is a critical piece of kit.
@Paladin1873Ай бұрын
I only do one thing differently from what is described in this video. When initially setting up my dies in the press, after the die makes contact with the shell holder I hold the locking ring flush against the press and back off the die about a quarter turn before tightening the locking ring to the die. This prevents the shell holder from coming into contact with the die which could cause needless peening of both parts.

Thanks for this series. I would say that I am not much of a reloading fan to begin with. I always use off-the-shelf new ammo as I have known a couple guys that do their own reloading and it has not work well for them. In fact, one of my friends daughters had a bad primer shotgun load mess up the bolt and he had to mig weld and machine a new end on it as they were not available anywhere. I can't remember what brand of shotgun it was, but it was fairly old. Obviously they were trained by either friends or family that done it forever. In this case, I may try it down the road once I get it figured out what I want to do.

They do not Call Hornady One Shot - Hornady One Stuck. The problem is that people do not read the instructions when using HOS. You have to let the brass dry before sizing!
@JasonPewАй бұрын
In order to use Hornady OneShot successfully, you absolutely need to clean all of the previous die wax and/or Lanolin out of your dies. Brake cleaner, Acetone, etc can be used. Get the die super clean. Then give the inside a light coat of OneShot. Now the die is ready. Don’t ever use standard die wax or Lanolin in that die again. So many people think that it is ok to mix OneShot with other waxes but this is a huge mistake.

Thanks for mentioning the Small Base die purpose and use. I am new to reloading and have only loaded various small and larger caliber pistol rounds. I am about to cross over to .223/5.56 as well as other varmint and hunting calibers (6). I have Small Base .223 RCBS and was considering buying FL dies. My family has 3 AR platforms (one is Wylde) and want ammo to function in each. Sounds like my SB die is most correct for my purposes. Yes?

Hey the All American 8 is my press! I’ve gone into debt buying turrets so that I can leave dies in the turret for easy swap out.

Hi thanks for the video, great stuff. I have a question , 9mm semi, when I picked up my brass I also got some other 9mm from a different shooter, when I size my brass it goes into the Wilson Case Gauge just right , but the other head stamped brass would not go all the way in. I am guessing that the other head stamped brass was shot from a firearm with larger spec'd chamber. Should I just recycle that stuff?
@johne1653Ай бұрын
The problem with picking up brass is that as you found some troubles. Some competitive shooters load to hot spec, hence 9MM. And, this may need special attention like a roll sizer. A good idea is to mark your ammo with sharpie so can cull your brass from other brass.
@CFurnace-72Ай бұрын
I found that the rifle brass seems to last a heck of a lot longer if you aneal it before resizing it, If you want your brass to shine like polished gold after dawn soap washing then walnut polish with Lucas gun metal polish. Bought only on the internet. Auto stores do not carry it.

So I only have one 45-70 and it’s a lever action Henry Should I just neck size? Since I’m only using one gun?

I thing I would have added more emphasis on making sure semi-auto pistol shells are exactly to specification. My .45 will not come to full battery if that case length is even a hair too long. The shell MUST be to correct length!
@cliff8680Ай бұрын
The biggest mistake I ever made was not to get my 9mm dies set down close enough to the shell holder.. was a bad day at the range from the first round jam.

Depends on a lot of things: pressure, maybe; if you bell and crimp aggressively, that'll wear it out faster too. Stovepipe malfunctions can smash up the brass and make it wear out faster too. I find that I lose the brass before it wears out, typically.

Yet world champion F Class shooters like Eric Cortina and many other bolt gun champions advocate for full sizing brass everytime. In one of his web series he goes into the science of why they all full size. . It makes sense why. This isn't the format to explain but do a search for Eric Cortina full sizing. Eric Cortina has won numerous F class world championships so ya i sit down, shut up and listen when he speaks.
