The band received a ton of letters from people, mostly teenagers, who had felt suicidal, but found strength in the song.

i owe this song my life. when i was in the deepest darkest pit of my depression i had a handgun against my head sitting alone in a dark room, i heard the click of the empty chamber (i still dont understand why it didnt fire, because it was fully loaded) and right after the click, my radio turned on and it was this song.........i burst out in tears and realized it was a permanent solution to a temporary problem and i was only passing my pain onto my family and friends. so thank you Vin and Sori for doing a reaction to this. i haven't been a subscriber for that long but from what i've seen you two are by far the best part of my days... i love watching your new uploads and going back over your repertoire. so again thank you for being here. i look forward to being a part of your "community" for years to come.

The string arrangement to Everybody Hurts was written by John Paul Jones, bassist for Led Zeppelin.

He did a great job putting beautiful string arrangements with very heartfelt words and making one hell of a beautiful song that has helped many people get through the toughest times. I remember when it first came out and crying my heart out because it is so beautiful and meaningful and became more meaningful when I watched an interview with Stipes and he said that he wrote this song about/for a friend of his who had just committed suicide, it was very sad.

Thank you so much for reacting to this song Vin and Sori, I have always loved it and it's on my list of all time favorites along with Queen (any and all) Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, and others. But this song has helped me and many others through the lowest darkest times in our lives, and I have been listening to it at least 5 times a day every day since my husband got locked up in federal prison in 2017, I have been in a really bad dark place since then and hearing Stipe sing hold on, hold on, everybody hurts helps me get through the day and night (bawling but making it). I am thankful to you for playing it and I could see that you both were feeling it and not just "hearing" it. Much love

There was a point in time I was going thru hell. I watched this song constantly, along with a lot of praying. I finally got my footing back, and now, my life is wonderful! I used to bawl my eyes out listening to this. I teared up, tonight, just remembering what I went thru. But life goes thru cycles, and you have ups and downs. I knew that then, although I felt like there was no end to my misery. I held on, and here I am! I know people I need to share this with.

Most emotional reaction i ever watched. Not because of the song, their caring for each other made me cry! I was watching him cause from the first notes, I could tell that he is deeply touched … and although she never looked at him… she recognized that was sadly touched, so she grabbed his arm. This gesture was so touching ♥️ that’s what love is all about

My favorite REM songs are from the early and mid 80's.. When the meaning of the song and even the words were difficult to decipher. When they were young and expressing their weird world view. Pilgrimage, Moral Kiosk, Radio Free Europe, Can't Get There From Here, Welcome to the Occupation, The One I Love, South Central Rain .. etc.

This is me at this very moment of my life. It is not very easy to live 10 years in a depression and have the impression that things never improve and at the same time coexist with all the consequences that impacts on life. One of the hardest part is to see 99% of your friends just disappear. Sometimes the will is to really give up everything, but...here I am still standing, fighting all these demons.

@420since19746 жыл бұрын
REM's drummer Bill Berry wrote most of this song, though all of the band had a part in it. Guitarist Peter Buck stated ""the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers", and "I've never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me." In 2005, Buck told the BBC: "If you're consciously writing for someone who hasn't been to college, or is pretty young, it might be nice to be very direct. In that regard, it's tended to work for people of a lot of ages."
