Remaking a Cake FAIL (Hyperrealistic Orange Cake)

A little over a year ago, I made a hyperrealistic cake of an orange -- and it's haunted me ever since 💀 So this week, I'm trying again and using a brand-new technique. Do you think I was able to improve this hyperrealistic orange cake compared to last time? Let me know in the comments!

Can you make a half a coconut cake next? With coconut water inside? I think that would be interesting, and the hairs on the shell would look really cool. And the cake inside could be coconut flavoured.

The peeled orange looks absolutely real. But the other one looks too perfect. I think it needs some imperfections to look like the real thing.

I much prefer the first peeled orange bc it was all cake and no mold was used…this one had too much gelatin in molds, almost no cake.

Not trying to downplay Natalie's talent in any way, as creating hyperrealistic art in any form is extremely difficult, but many of her newer "cakes" have barely contained any cake. Most of the items she makes now are just chocolate or gelatin poured into a mould, and then she inserts a tiny bit of cake and buttercream wherever it can fit. I honestly miss the hand sculpted cakes covered in modeling chocolate.

The half orange cake came out amazing! The slice looks like a painted orange, but it was hard to tell if it was special because it cut so similarly to how a real orange would.

it definitely is an upgrade from the last one. Though I do feel that the half with its peel on looks a bit fake but I also feel the same with some real oranges. Like they just seem fake even though I know they are real.

This was awesome, I loved how the orange looked juicy❤ You should make a cake of a dogs foot next. Not a whole dog, but the bottom of a dogs foot/pawpad complete with hairy textures and claws. Theres so many weird textures to work with on a dogs paw pad, and it would just be such a weird cake. Disembodied dog leg/foot cake for no reason other than you can xD (for the record I love dogs, but I also love the weirdness of these cakes)

I felt like the white stuff was drawn on, maybe because I literally watched you do it, but idk why exactly. I think the white spongy layer on the orange is more of a fuzzy texture, while the white paint kinda gave it a powdery texture: I think that's what gives it away. It might have been better with powdered sugar the way you made that fuzzy peach, after all its a spongy material, not something powdery. But all in all, BIG Improvement over the last orange cake, and I just love this cake.🍊

I love this cake so much. This brand-new technique turned out amazing. My only piece of criticism is the skin of the orange isn't shiny and isn't orange enough. I think if you used a brighter and darker orange, and used grape seed oil to create the shiny look, it would make this cake even more cool than it already is.
