Sven's sentiments are very endearing and the aspirations for the rest of the industry are admirable, but it is very funny that Astro Bot proceeds to win the award, a game precision engineered to appeal to brand nostalgia and elbow in on an underserved demographic

It's also an extremely solid platformer that runs perfectly and doesn't waste your time or money. Funny how so many people conveniently forget that.

​@@manwithastick8756because Baldur's Gate isn't cashing on nostalgia for the older games, Dungeons & Dragons, and it's lore? Every game does that to some extent. No one expected the game bundled with the console to be the best PS5 exclusive for years - they didn't have to go that hard. But they cared, which got them a sequel, and then went even harder. Orders from Sony executives wasn't what made a GOTY.

Metaphor has 3-4 good tracks and the rest is repetitive, forgettable garbage. Rebirth has literally hundreds of bangers, including completely original pieces. Anyone who voted for Metaphor for "Best narrative" need to read a book and take a break from anime. I've read deeper narratives written by 8th-graders. I was honestly shocked how on the nose and shallow the game was when I finally played it.

Voting FF7 or SH2 for best narrative would be pretty ridiculous. Hellblade 2 and Yakuza aren't some storytelling masterpieces either. Pretty weak year for this category.

Actually, there’s one well made story this year and it’s 1000xResist. Now, I didn’t enjoy it in the slightest, but it’s a masterfully written piece of fiction that reinforces and elaborates on its themes in a cohesive and thorough fashion, with complex and fully drawn characters. Absolutely joyless though. A complete, genius, piece of misery. Also, Balatro best soundtrack; one song that I can listen to for literally hundreds of hours on end because of how complicated the rhythmic and melodic elements are. Shame it didn’t get nommed.
