Engine tuner here. I've tuned countless TI-VCT Sigma 1600 engines. The VVTs on these engine are very powerful. They have so much swing with larier cams, the overlap becomes so great the air will go straight in and out. Causing a misfire. You can see the torque dip at around 3000rpm which I expect it's got a bit too much overlap. In short in not surprised by this. I've done sigma engines with 220hp in "top spec" form (that is a fully built engine though). I bet this will be decent to drive. They only weight 1000kg ish. Same as a mk2 golf GTI
@neildaniel82323 күн бұрын
The big advantage aftermarket tuners have is that they don't have to worry about emissions, variable fuel quality and reliability anywhere near as much as the manufacturers have to. Makes a big difference to what figures you can get out of an N/A engine, still nowhere near the gains for forced induction but +15 bhp is well in the realms of believable.
@TassieLorenzo2 күн бұрын
+15bhp is a good effort on an N/A! With things like the Honda S2000 or Civic Type R you are lucky to get +5bhp with a remap on a mechanically standard car, as it's already optimised (but already doesn't meet emissions beyond about 2011, of course!). In the Civic Type R (2.0L), the cylinder head does support an extra 30-40bhp before porting with use of the right parts (intake manifold, header, drop-in cam) but the S2000 doesn't as it is already at that 240bhp/2.0L mark!

As far as I know you could get an extra 30 hp (book figure), or more, on Volvos with a third party tune. What happened was that their naturally aspirated 5 cyl from the beginning in the 850 and S/V70 was available in both 10 and 20 valve form. They were supposed to be 140 and 170 hp. Later, from the first S80 onwards (and late S/V70:s as far as I can remember) they did away with this and made all 20 valve, but there was still a 140 and 170. So if you tuned the 140...

Those indicators add 10hp each clearly. Missus has one of these. Had it 12 years, fun as hell with no mods/remap. Rarely has any issues besides ones caused by her crashing into stuff. Think we might need to remap it now. Dont think I'll get wife approval for a dyno run sorry!

A remap on naturally aspirated engines can be very hit and miss. I’ve seen some that only gain a little bit and aren’t really worth the time. I’ve seen others that gained quite a bit because the factory tune was so far off. Often had to do with timing and how rich the fueling was because most factory stuff is pretty rich. With modern e-throttles and cam timing the factory also sometimes does weird stuff for emissions or other reasons.

The "has Ford ever made a good engine" part is quite hilarious. We have a sort of rude saying about Ford, namely that Ford was created so Opel (Vauxhall for you lot) wouldn't be the worst car manufacturer.

I know they have both made some awful cars, but Ford are surely the better of the two? Certainly behind the wheel, anyway. Vauxhall/Opel possibly more robust?

@@UPnDOWN I don't think we are meant to have religious debates on here! Ford have made plenty of good engines IMHO, the Windsor, the Modular, the 300ci Inline-six, the Ford Australia Intech & Barra inline-sixes (not as good as the Toyota JZ, but close to the Nissan RB engine). Do you reckon the European Ford engines like the Essex V4 and Colonge V6 are not much chop?

I've got a remap on my 182 and it didn't make any extra power, but it does smooth out the rough idle and it pulls nicer all through the rev range. 15 extra HP is pretty sensational for a 1.6. If you need load of advance to make power it means you have slow combustion due to e.g. poor combustion chamber design, low volumetric efficiency (poor breathing) or low compression ratio, none of which should be a problem on this engine.

@DavidLee-nd2sx3 күн бұрын

@ferrumignis2 күн бұрын
@@DavidLee-nd2sx To be fair it's also possible for an engine to be "knock limited" which means you can't achieve the optimal ignition advance before detonation occurs. Typically this can happen in an engine with very high compression and/or high boost, but a relatively modern 16v naturally aspirated production engine shouldn't be knock limited. Higher octane can help in that specific case but unless you change to ethanol even the premium pump gas doesn't buy you very much.
