My E90 320D been remapped from 163hp to 210hp for about a year and 3 months so far. Runs a bit rich on fuel but still runs strong, turbo still great.

Remaps are fantastic as long as they are done right from a reputable company. Just expect a little more wear and tear on your clutch.

Commented on your E46 vid before watching this. I would advise anyone with a manual car to be prepared for a new clutch if it has had a few years work. I'm on my 3rd OE dmf because I was driving the car hard regularly. Lazy driving sitting in 5-6th and planting it to overtake etc was also cause of dmf failure. I would here and feel mine bottoming out. I personally didn't want to compromise driveability with solid flywheel. Couldn't justify 1k+ for performance Sachs dmf so another OE LUK went in and just treat the old girl with a bit more respect.

Tom did the clutch on the e46 it got a stage one not massive power still goes well but he doesn’t hammer it as you say got to have a bit of respect for these older motors ..with it being on such high mileage we are considering a rebuild at some point 👍

Think BMW’s own M performance remap to 286bhp does include an updated intercooler. Interesting that they felt that was necessary yet most basic aftermarket stage 1 maps take it to 306bhp without…

I've had remaps on a succession of cars and all were an excellent experience. When wifey bought a 320d we intended to get that done, but read so many horror stories that we changed our minds. I'm rethinking again now.

Late to the party but I have a 320d Efficient Dynamic, got it remapped at Midland Remaps with dyno, it was 171 stock, 218 after. Transformed the car from always feeling a tiny bit lacking to WOW. That was 5 yrs ago, it’s been rock solid, some of the best money I ever ever spent. Love driving it every day, currently thinking about upgrading to the 330d but would happily keep the 320d for years if I don’t find what I’m looking for.

Well worth it also on many a modern 1.0 turbo petrol. Had our 2017 kia rio done. Went from 99bhp to 140bhp While not big figures, as a % of gain its massive. Best £250 I have spent on it.

I had a professional remap on my Audi A3 1.6 TDI, rolling road etc. The car had 42,000 miles. Cost me about £350 back in 2012. Worked very well, with no problems whatsoever. Traded it in with 262,000 miles on the clock. Then bought an A4 175bhp and bought a tuning box from TDi Tuning, a DIY kit they send you via the post and you fit it yourself. That was about 2 years and 50,000 miles ago and it still runs perfectly fine with much improved mpg and power, 240bhp claimed, although I suspect it's more likely 200-220bhp. My next car is going to be a BMW 335d with 310bhp stock. Interesting to see how that performs with a tuning box.

Hello mate I had my f30 330d lci 16 plate in for stage 1 remap as well as gearbox remap 2 days ago. The car was checked for previous tunes and it was completely stock just a bit over the bmw claimed figures - 261hp and 562nm. No dpf pressure whatsoever so after the tune i got 335hp and 668nm. I don't know what i am more impressed about - the power or the gearbox shift. I didn't think that mapped zf8 can shift better than the original which was great already but now i think otherwise. In comfort feels very responsive and it spins tyres even in a higher speed compared to before . The massive difference comes in sport - the car becomes like a bullet :D. I let it warm up fully until I actually drive it faster. Hopefully long term it will last as there is always some risk involved after any tune. So far I am very impressed.

Hi mate sorry for the late reply..we’ll them figures sound impressive was it a generic map or did it go on a rolling road ? And those standard figures are pretty good to ..I bet it’s like a rocket now 😎as long as it was done by a decent company the car will be fine ..I’m thinking about getting the gearbox map but will have to have the software update first then get it re mapped again ..I’ve had my map for over 12 months now it’s been great love the fuel economy from the 3 L ..but as you say sadly in winter and even in the dry to some extent the rear tires light up through the rev range …roll on spring 😂😂😎👍

@@330dfam Hello mate it was all done on the rolling road. If I was you I would wait for the second egr recall (if you haven't done it already). Refference the figures - that guy said they give the pessimistic readings of 310hp and 650nm but often they achieve more than that (cold weather was helpfull also). I did mine in Portsmouth as it was recommended to me by a friend which had his one there remapped for more than an year with no issues. The car now is ridiculous I just need to be careful to be warmed up fully so prior that I drive like a granny :).

Mines on 310 bhp whic does me the car is still stupid quick and can keep up with some really quick stuff .. I wouldn’t panic to much as it’s been properly just drive sensible till warmed up be all good 👍 these cars are stupid quick for what they are proper sleepers 😂

@@330dfam 310hp is pretty much the same as 335hp it shouldn't be a massive difference. 500 miles later I can see better consumption (3-5mpg) and I barely touch the accelerator( I can feel extra power even in very low rpm). I had a short pull with 335d standard and from the traffic light I got destroyed as he has x drive :D and I was spinning tyres. On a roll though I was easing ahead I think mainly because of the mapped gearbox - the response in instant. We basically have 335d but with rwd. I can only immagine what would mapped 335d look like haha.

@@330dfam I'm based in Ireland and I'm actually tempted to go over to GKR tuning in Wales. Guy has great reviews and says he can usually get between 300 - 330hp and around 700nm without intercooler and downpipe. Quite impressive

I got myself a 335d f31 recently, slightly regretting the terrible economy compared to the 330, but planned to remap it once I'd got a few miles down and got used to it. Thinking its about that time, any suggestions for a place to do the job, I'm near Doncaster and so not too far away from darkside... ya think it's worth paying a bit of a premium to get those lads to do a proper job, or should I just do it on bimmertech and get a generic map? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cheers

Hi mate I did love that car changed it now tho …I’ve always had generic maps mate never had a problem with them as long as there by a decent tuner ..not sure about anywhere up your ways mate dark side are expensive however there guarantees are there ..the torque on them 35ds is next level 💪👍

I know you did this video a while back but been looking for a car myself. The line up was m140i, Golf R etc. my old man always owned diesels and swears by them he has an X5 3.0d and a 640d with stage 1(weapon). I honestly think the N57 is a no brainer because you have a timing chain that should go the life of the engine if treated right, a torque converter in the gearing setup and decent mpg with plenty of shove .. let’s be honest how often we really getting the opportunity to go high speeds here in the UK? Now that brings me onto the AUDI VW diesels .. I rule out the 3.0d from the off because the motor needs overhauled around 100k new timing chain etc and it’s at the back so it’s engine out job £££££. The 2.0d are really good motors but you have the timing belt and water pumps to do and everyone forgets the Dual Mass Flywheels which have a lifespan of around 80-100k expensive job as well. The 2.0d either take to a remap or they don’t it all comes with to how it’s driven, the map itself and how often it’s serviced but my honest opinion is that I’d trust a N57 with a map but not a VAG 2.0 diesel, especially not the newer ones. While I was surfing YT looking at Golf R reviews there’s now a common theme where the turbos are blowing on stock setup .. The moral of this story is each time I go looking I come back to the N57 …

Hi mate n 57 is a great motor with regular service intervals however they can also suffer from timing chain issue not as common as the 320d to be honest had mine three years and it was an awesome motor 👍😎

Hi mate it’s Tom, in my opinion m57 30d awesome motor, mines done 250k plus still going well, n57 engines are still bomb proof if looked after, swirl flaps arnt ment to be as Mitch as an issue as the m57, still it’s all how the engine is looked after. Absolutely love the f31, more refined and loads of toys, get a decent spec and you’ll love it, remap and it’s the car it should have been from factory, decent bhp and bags of torque, can’t speak for the VW’s as all my knowledge is 90’s, I had a mk6 (I think) 20d golf with work yrs ago, mile muncher went ok, but mpg I’d have a 30d bmw any day, goes when u want it normal driving just a joy 😂😎👍🏻

Ive personally had 4 cars remapped, a focus 1.8tdci, 118d, 325d and a a3 2.0 tdi, however i think the f30 330d has plenty of power as standard. Feels faster then my mapped e90 325d. I also think the amount of times i would use the xtra power vs the worry of extra strain on the timing chain is not worth it. There's the dpf aswell that can clogg earlier and need regen more ofter due to more fuel being burnt.

Timing chain problems are mostly common on the 320s not the 30s

Yes of course, but there has still been cases of it happening on the 3ltrs even on standard power

Well said m8 as you said remaps now are all with the parameters for the ecu now and like you say the car runs better and the mpg will go up 3/4/5 mpg all manufacturers hold cars back from its true potential on purpose so it just opening up more of the cars true potential

Remapping an n57 engine is definitely worth it. The difference is night and day on my f30 330d, I struggle to find traction on 1st gear with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tyres, rear wheel drive 😅 Gave your channel a sub, fellow f30 330d owner 🫡

@@330dfam one of my friend has the first generation 4.2 v8 R8, we were on par with each other, after 120 he slowly started walking away (quiet night roads) the v8 sounds beautiful though. Funny you say that I get pace with a new 911 to about 100..laughing my head off ..they are wolf in sheeps kinda cars ..I had a first generation rs6 v8 bi turbo and the 30d would smoke that off the line ..yeah that’s a good upgrade the rear box there’s not much noise from the back 👍

Aslong as you're going to a reputable tuner and your cars running right you shouldn't have any issues. I've mapped almost all of my cars. My current car is a 2015 golf 150bhp diesel I mapped it at 80k and it's at 170k right now with no map related issues

@@AD4M1873 if I’m honest I didn’t notice at first power wise but then you think hang on this thing flies I did a zero to 60 using dragy gps and best time of 4.8 which is quick ..my thoughts to mate on the mpg any increase is a win win 😎😞

@@AliGKICKBOXING it won’t ruin your car just improve performance and mpg ..a generic re map is what I’ve got basically plugged into a laptop this map is designed for your car ..custom map you will pay more they can squeeze a bit extra from your car ..this the car has to go on the dyno .. As long as you go to someone where there maps at insured you will be fine. ..had mine over two years and it’s been great 👍 😎

Hi mate don’t know what type of driving you do but I do 60 mile round trip a day mainly motorway byepass and a small amount of town driving on the commute the car is in eco pro and it’s doing 51 .1 mpg so defo worth it I was getting mid to high 40s before the map 👍

A few extra mpg would help me out as I'm really wondering if I should have just gone for the 320d. It's just that engine note and the front when you need it. I'm torn between an economy map and a typical stage 1...

@@Trappygit hi mate even the normal stage one improves economy..but the eco tune is meant to give a bit more power …you would miss that 6 cylinder if you got rid ..sounds like we have very similar driving styles 👍🥲

Probably best mate with a percentage of people loosing there maps depending on dealers… I’d defo get it done mate great gains all round transforms the car ..I fancied the gearbox map but I’m on a 13 plate so meant to over heat however software update I’ve heard can fix that .. Ps if you mate does the map he might put it back on for free if you loose it worth a shout 👍

@@330dfam I’ve had a 13 plate also with over 200k miles on it and the gearbox flash never caused a problem mate. I highly recommended it as these cars have a gearbox limiter in a few of the starting gears so it makes a massive difference. (Car was abused till 240k with it on till I sold it)

@@330dfam original timing chain no chatter or anything from it, just oil and filter every 5-6k which was every 3 months for me. I did change the turbo when I got it but that was due to me wanting more power so went with a hybrid one.

I brought mine 5 month ago i only do city trips but my mpg is terrible I think the owner before me done a cowboy re map do I ask him where he went and go back there to correct it or just go get an eco map from closer to me coz I’m only getting 22mpg literally get 120miles with 50£ absolute joke to me any thought people ????

Hi mate I’d just got to somewhere your happy with they can remove the map and replace with one that suits you just make sure they are fully insured 22mog does sound a bit low even for town driving..Is everything else up to date like servicing has is had the egr recall just all little things that can help

@@330dfam last month had the recall health check everything perfect now it’s due a service but only small service apparently from previous owner said he done one not long before I brought it so I’m gonna service it but personally bmw said they always ask 1st if it has poor mpg has it been mapped not sure what to think as a service is due but when I got the car it said 36mpg but I reset it and only done 1 airport run so been on motorway once and getting around 22mpg but the car is very responsive apparently had a ecu and tcu map
