Blunder #1 : Photo blunder alert: Hands up- I mixed up Ed Lasker with Géza Maróczy - ooops - will try and cover another game of this tournament and clarify that! Blunder #2 - I didn't mention Nxh3+ which was also winning. It would have been nice to mention that. Sorry for the blunders!

Lasker on fire here. Even at 56 years old.

Lasker was also a notable mathematician. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primary_decomposition

27 years the champion, he has to be the greatest! Sure spanked Alehine here.

Lasker was a great player who proved to be still top-notch even after losing chess chsmpionship a few years earlier. 55 at the time this was played...he proved that age to him was just a number.

Lasker always entertains. His book is excellent.

Lasker kept his WC title so long not by accident, he was a very strong player. Even after losing to Capablanca he kept winning strongest tournaments and beating Capa in them despite his age. He was really similar to Magnus - playing for just slight advantage from the opening and posing the opponents hard problems to solve which confused most of them and provoked blunders.

More, more, more Lasker! Indeed, this game seems to touch the true spirit of chess. He reminds me of Leela on... go! Start unremarkable, then hit the opponent mercilessly.

I do agree with you about Lasker, I really don't get why so few people name him among the very best, but I feel he, in his prime, was better than both Capa and Alekhine, and is right up there with Kasparov and Fischer (and Magnus).

Lasker is my fav champion too, I recommend reading his biography Emmanuel Lasker the life of a chess master

Ohhh this exciting game, clash of two Titans.

It’s hard to believe this was Alekhine. I remember also that at this time, Lasker had just , three years ago, lost the championship title to Capa. To think he should be devastated by the loss wasn’t really the case. Such a strong player, Lasker!

Is it possible that Lasker was secretly using stockfish to cheat during this match?

I love your videos and analyses. Please keep them coming. They are keeping me sane in this crazy world right now. One small nitpick is I think you're mispronouncing the name of Alexander Alekhine. I'm pretty sure it's pronounced more like al-YEK-ihn. Although kudos to you as it seems you're now sometimes pronouncing "fianchetto" properly!

That Bf4 played by Alekhine is really strong in some ways and he did neglect it.

I swear the early game looked all too famiiar. I'm sure I've played the same opening on the white side against a computer that demolished me in much the same manner, except more thoroughly. 😐 A useful video - seeing how the bishop imbalance is exploited to the full.

SmartyPantsChess did a pretty good analysis of this game. He did less historical background and the video was a few minutes longer, so several extra minutes of analysis
