Mrs King was a wonderful woman, with a great big heart and great compassion, and raised a wonderful family. I enjoyed taking a class at CTS in Decatur which she was a special speaker on the subject: "Civil Rights and Pastoral Leadership" back in 1987. "Her children shall arise and call her blessed".

As a nearly 60 year old black man I count Bill Clinton as my ALL TIME favorite politician- even above Barack Obama. When Clinton was in office it was the FIRST time that I felt as an African American that America was MY country also. President Clinton was a true friend and advocate for Blacks and had a REAL cultural connection to us that makes him STILL TODAY one of Black people's ALL TIME FAVORITE HUMAN BEINGS.

It was hardly a funeral at all. It was almost like an award show. I'm not sure I liked the tone of the whole ceremony. I'm glad President Clinton offered a little perspective after all of the rhetoric that was offered that day.

It was a celebration for Mrs king ..being from ATL the city was so sad when she passed it was a sad week . We had cried out tears and had to realize she lived a full life and she seen much more than what most of us has seen .regardless of her hard life here on earth
@leejacob36402 жыл бұрын
Look brother you sound like a intelligent person this is all foolishness even with this Clinton speech.. the clintons did a lot of damage to black people and one of the creators of the prison industrial complex. Notice how he purposely don't speak about King being assassinated by this government
@leejacob36402 жыл бұрын
King was assassinated for demanding economic change I'm tired of my black people accepting this symbolism from these white supremacist.. my question to my people is where are the economic policies and executive orders for black people.. they issue out these policies and executive orders to other groups but tell us what they can't do for us... this is nothing but a campaign to keep the Democrats in office we need to stop falling for this BS .no concrete tangibles no vote.. The King Family should never allow this this is a disgrace and I'm very disappointed with the King family
@gerryjacobs878511 жыл бұрын
Clinton is the best ever. The guy knows how to capture a room, wherever it may be. What separates him is that despite him being the ultimate politician, he makes you feel that it's real and that he's speaking to you personally. An amazing gift. He stole the show yet was true to the moment for a woman of Coretta Scott King's stature. I loved watching him but I never forgot that it was about Mrs. King.
@Krobra91 Жыл бұрын
i think its also the fact that he was a flawed president. and that makes him probably more human the previous presidents.

@mgeek1 african american funerals have always had a more celebratory tone when the person has lived a long and full life. the idea is less to mourn the person's death and more to celebrate his/her life and all that he/she has done.

Mr. Clinton is a great great speecher. I love when he talks to a crowed. He´s on of the best. BUT... i think he was so unapropiate in this ocasion. This wasn´t a comedy show. Martin Luther Kin´s Widow was in front of him. In a casket for God sake! Show some respect to the lady! And everybody laughing like nothing happened.
@aysatisharris25558 жыл бұрын
+Luis Carlos Abreu Gil You are very unaware of how we, in the African American culture, act at funerals, or as we like to call the "Homegoing Celebrations". We laugh, cry, dance, sing, shout, and celebrate a life well lived and them going home to heaven. President Clinton is aware seeing as how he has spoken at and attended several African American funerals so for you what he was doing may seem inappropriate but for us its just a normal homegoing.

@dab7271 I understand all of that, but this is not what that was. I watched the funeral when it originally aired. It took on too political a tone, where you had these politicians trying to one-up each other with one-liners. I was like a political rally instead of a funeral. It wasn't appropriate for the occasion.

Shame on those who push they're beliefs or sordid beliefs when a woman of character has been lost. Is it possible for you to shut your mouth and just listen? She was an awe inspiring lady who selflessly worked for bettering people. She was NOT an AFRICAN AMERICAN. No such thing. If your born in our great nation then your a American, period. She didn't ask anything of you. She didn't ask for the attention her funeral received.
@simondilling4005 жыл бұрын
Well, she was African-American since for both her and her assassinated husband it was important to also embrace their African heritage. To have a black consciousness and African awareness as an essential part of black identity.
