It’s 1994, many flights around the world still permit smoking on certain rows (e.g. last 5 rows). I remember when I flew BA 744 between LHR and HKG in 1994 and was seated in or close to smoking area.

This is an a330, since a340 wasn't in the fleet back in 1994, it joined in 1996

You're partially correct. The A340s that CX ordered joined in 1996. However, there was already an A340 in the CX fleet in 1994. Those were originally intended for PR but were leased by CX on an interim basis until their own A340s were delivered.

i believe this is the inflight safety video for the a330, not the a340, as the plane shown in the 3d renders only have 2 engines

I think it's more to do with paying attention during taxi, take-off and landing in case there was an emergency.

Yes, but of the overhead variety like you still see in charter coaches rather than on seatbacks as we know them today
