I remember when this game mode came out. All 12 of us thought that if you got a hexakill, you would get an icon or a reward. So we all collectively met at the baron pit and allowed everyone to kill each other for a hexkill. We didn't get shit but for 12 league players to agree with that, those were the golden days.

As fun as it would be to play this again, players nowadays quickly ruin fun and quirky game modes. You see people releasing tier lists for literally any mode and after a day or two, people aren't interested in trying new things or having fun. You'll face the most tryhard comps that are playing as if they put their lives on the line. Then you'll meet a cool lobby or two out of ten, maybe.

I'm sure there's still some code in LoL that existed back then, but they've made so many structural changes to the code since then that it's simply not backward compatible. Additionally, since they likely assumed they wouldn't ever need to go back to an old version, those changes probably compound on each other as more and more characters and mechanics interact only with the new framework. They would need to spend a decent amount of development resources to redo functionality that used to be there but is now removed. At that point, it's pretty understandable that riot would prefer to develop new content instead
