I don't know what spell I was under when I first saw this as a 10 year old, but after watching the show again I just can't seem to like the main characters (Derek, Casey, and even Emily) for more than a few minutes because they are always doing something annoying or awful. The younger siblings were by far the best characters. Casey was a whiney drama queen, Derek was like if you took Drake (from Drake and Josh) and removed most of the good qualities, and Emily is the worst friend ever. Lol I still love the acting and some of the story within the show its just hard to like the older characters (especially in the first few seasons)

100% agree that you should always being it up to the teacher if you think they misgraded your essay or exam. I always reviewed my corrected exams to check there was no mistake in the corrections or that the teacher summed the points of every exercise correctely. They are human people and when they have to trade 200 exams they can make mistakes. Once in a english exam,( i am spanish) the teacher took one point from me because i wrote the sentence " with faux skins, there is no point to skin animals for fashion anymore " ( it was an argumentation about the use of animal skins in fashion industry, you have to choose s position on it and defend it) , i meant skin as a verb , as in "to skin". But she assumed i could not know skin was a verb too and that i had wanted to say " to use the skin of" . She took a whole point for that so i obviously told her to get my point back. And no one had a problem with it so , to people still in school, if your classmates have a problem with you standing up to get the mark you deserve...ignore them, they are idiots.

About the grade grubbing stuff, I have to disagree. I think there is WAY too much emphasis placed on grades over learning, especially when it comes to tying grades to your self-worth. As someone who would cry in middle school after getting a 97%, I know firsthand how an extreme preoccupation with grades can be detrimental to your self esteem. It's unfortunate that things like getting into a good college or med school require stellar grades. There's a slippery slope between "I need good grades to get X opportunity" and "I got an A- therefore I'm stupid." Ultimately grades are an imperfect measurement of how much someone learned, and we shouldn't treat somewhat arbitrary numbers as proof that we're smart or capable. The important thing is that someone is gaining knowledge and skills, not that they got a 99.99%, whatever that means. It's possible to get a very good grade in a class while absorbing very little information, and it's possible to understand something deeply but not have this reflected in one's grade. People who are unhealthily obsessed with grades often need help reframing their perspective. The counselor should have explored why it was so important to Casey to get good grades instead of making fun of her for grade-grubbing.
@flowerously55043 жыл бұрын
The counselor was so unhelpful it was ridiculous sometimes omg. 100% agree about the grades, I based my entire self worth on my gpa and barely remember anything I actually learned :(. They spark such an unhealthy competition among students so many turn to cheating and finish classes with no more knowledge than they started with. I understand telling kids “School is important” but some take it to the extreme and need to know that getting lower than an A is OKAY and high school grades don’t define a person.
