Self-destruction is a great song. Boogie Down Productions was on it back in the day when it came to telling stories from the inner city. They were about something. I love what they stood for. RIP Ms. Melodie.

@The Dragon Manifest Show RIGHT I didn’t say I like Q
@crw36732 жыл бұрын
No disrespect, but I don't see her being as big a Latifah. But it is sad that the record labels didn't get behind her and other positive artists! It is a document fact that the industry pushed negative rap music like gangsta rap, 30 plus years ago for the demise of the black community. This is why artists like Ms Melody didn't get much radio play and now part of the unforgetten.
@spank24242 жыл бұрын
@@crw3673 I don’t see why not Ms Melody had the best Mc coach in the industry KRS One...but I understand what ur saying as far the negatively they pushed and still want today
@crw36732 жыл бұрын
@@spank2424 okay I agree with the best Mc coach. And maybe if there wasn't a shift in pushing gangsta rap, maybe she would have shined? Charles Barkley once said, their were a handful of basketball players that he thought were better than Jordan. For one reason or another, they didn't make it to the NBA. Sometimes it's just timing. Being in the right place at the right time.
@earlross16632 жыл бұрын
Latifah was an actress also, so that's what helped her career. She didn't have as much exposure as that.

I thank you for this small look/documentary of rap artist Ms Melody. I also didn't know she was formally married to KRS 1, until her passing. I think what she was trying to say in her interview was you can come off hard, without looking or sounding like a man. I commend KRS 1 and B.D.P for seeing a problem in our community and trying to do something about. He saw how rap music influenced our culture and try to do something positive. But the label and the powers that be, didn't get behind him and other artists that moved towards positive Hip Hop.
@able762 жыл бұрын
Wow! She was ahead of her time. Her message is what's needed today; Women maintaining their femininity...R.I.P.
@pele11201 Жыл бұрын
What she is saying is the truth. A lot of female MCs back in the 80s and early 90s were hard on the mic in terms of rhymes, but we’re still very feminine in both appearance and demeanor. Rappers like Ms. Melodie, Yo-Yo, Latifah, Sweet Tee, Antoinette, Monie Love, and MC Trouble were all nice on the mic and still very feminine. All of that started to change around 1993 when the G-Funk era took over.

This is an Awesome video Sir. I really enjoyed receiving this information. I am a Super Fan of KRS ONE, Boogie Down Productions, Ms. Melody and the rest of the Crew. She was really a stand alone female Rap Artist that set an example and a positive one with her subtle female rap style at that time. I never forgot old school Hip Hop even here in 2023. I listened to the Blastmaster Yesterday. Just stating these things out of much passion for the culture that was set and continued by the Foundational Groups from back in the day.

Rest in eternal Power, Queen. If there's one rapper... 'scuse me, I mean MC that is similar to Ms Melodie then it has to be the REAL Queen of Hip Hop today, Rapsody. But Melodie was in same era with Latifah, Lyte, Yo-Yo, Monie Love, all who are, in my opinion the original queen's of hip hop. It's such a shame Melodie was taken from us so soon. Speaking of 90s female hip hop artists, y'all remember Bo$$? She was one my personal best MC's. Another true talent that disappeared. Thank you for another great and informative video ✌🏾

Wow she was a style Icon! She had on better drip than everyone. Her hair was super fly and her makeup was flawless! She also had a lot of sex appeal. She was so beautiful and classy. She reminds me of how Tokyo Vanity looks today. I knew she had passed, but I thought it was way before 2012 because she did leave the rap scene and the media. I really wonder what was her cause of death? I am 44 now. I hate she died so young and she was a beast on the mic. With the right direction she could have been a superstar.
