SJA was on CBBC but wasn’t afraid to explore topics kids and parents could relate to. Losing your son, a friend moving away, having an argument with your mother, leaving for college, losing who you are, homelessness etc. From series 2 onwards the show consistently didn’t talk down the audience, it put these things in with a scifi lens.
@Jaeden_Phoenix3 жыл бұрын
I think I prefer this SJA Doctor Episode vs the Matt Smith one because The Doctor doesn't just solve the issue, he just helps the main cast do it, but in the Matt Smith one he kinda just shows up and saves the day, but I have a soft-spot for the Matt Smith Episode because it was the one and only time Russel T Davis wrote for the 11th Doctor.

Fun context! That “football windy thing” is called a “grogger,” a noisemaker toy used on the Jewish holiday of Purim. They’re used to drown out the name of Haman - the man who tried to engineer a genocide of the Jews (no, not *that* genocide. Glad to see Harbo finally do an SJA review! This is a great episode! One of top favourite SJA episodes! Seeing David Tennant guest star in SJA was a big highlight as a kid! I still remember the trailers and everything! Such a great crossover! Very entertaining, fun and emotional. I love the final scene between Sarah Jane and The Doctor as well as Clyde, Rani and Luke getting to explore the Tardis. The music was so good too. The Trickster was a very good and manipulative villain. Man it still makes me sad. We were really robbed of not getting The Battle of Bannerman Road for Series 5.

7:18 Actually it's at least 5 times. Planet of the Spiders (there was a Metebellis spider on her back during the near end of the story), Masque of Mandragora (Hypnotized briefly), Hand of Fear (Eldrad's Hand), Prisoner of the Judoon (Androvax Posessed her body) and here (The ring).

I always liked the idea that the final scene of the episode with The Doctor was actually after The End of Time. He got roped into another story immediately after the day was saved hence his disappearance after the wedding ended, only to have a proper goodbye knowing he's about to Regenerate. (I know he briefly met Sarah in The end of time but, I dunno I think the "Don't forget me" line is more effective)

I like to think that is episode was after journeys end and the reason the doctor is so sad is that recently someone did have to forget about him (donna getting mind wiped to save her)

A great video. This 2 parter is defo my fave epsiodes of SJA. Its such a shame Elizabeth Sladen passed away, she was such a big part of Doctor who, Modern and Classic. I just hope that the next showrunner is good, hopfully on the levels of Moffat and Davies, and brings back certain things, like the trickster, or Clyde, Luke, Rani, Maria etc I can't remember if Clyde kept the artron energy after the 11th dr crossover, but that connection between Clyde and the Tardis, paired with Clydes connection to the judoon would be an amazing return episode for an amazing companion

in a future series of SJA called Miracle of Bannerman Road based on a Christmas Carol was going to have Tom Baker play the guide who would take Sarah Jane Smith to the Past Present and Future which seems to imply the guide was to be the doctor or a manifestation of Smith's imnd of the Doctor.

In general I find series 3 of SJA to be the weakest run on the whole, but this story is a real highlight. The Trickster is a great villain as always, and yet again he results in a highly impactful and emotional storyline, which is played perfectly by Lis Sladen and Nigel Havers. The Doctor is also very well used, making a big impact and providing a real treat for fans of the parent show, while never overshadowing the main cast and guest performers, which is also helped by the surprising amount of chemistry and rapport that David Tennant has with the young cast members. I think all three of the younger actors got some interesting and fun things to do, with Luke's interesting reactions to possibly having a father figure, and a decent demonstration of Clyde's clever and resourceful attitude. I do agree that Rani got somewhat underused, but considering that the previous story had been entirely focussed on her, I think I can let that slide somewhat. All in all, a really fun and surprisingly emotional story, and one of the high points of the spin-off

I feel like with RTD coming back to be showrunner for Doctor Who, I think he could bring back the Trickster. Although I do hear that the character itself was created by someone who is no longer apart of the BBC for some racist remarks so if he doesn’t show up again it is understandable.

Hey Harbo, great video as always. Indeed, you continue to remind us of why we love the Whoniverse. I hope the beginning bit was a more of a joke than a semi-joke. Always create the content that you want to do. Don't feel compelled to create something just because other people say so. There's plenty of shows I watch but I wouldn't necessarily do a video on them. I hope you had as much fun making this video as we did watching it. Though I don't know if you've seen all of SJA, but I thought the first time the Trickster appears is an amazing story, with incredible acting and dialogue. I think it's in "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?"

14:25 you act like kids tv wasn’t good back in the day 😤 There was a really weighty line in the second SJA story that was perfectly implemented in undertones about Maria’s mum cheating with a yoga instructor, and then some real snarky writing where she asks Maria’s dad for the double duvet because “it’s not like you need it anymore” and it’s just such brutally realistic writing that’s only there for the adults to hear..
