Today marks 50 years since the death of legendary race car driver, designer and engineer Bruce McLaren. Tragically in 1970, McLaren was killed at Goodwood while testing his McLaren M8 Can-Am car, aged just 32. At the Goodwood Revival in 2015, we commemorate the life, career and legacy of Bruce McLaren by assembling a spectacular parade of cars that he had raced and built over the years. #GoodwoodRevival #McLaren #BruceMcLaren

Great to see the Lycoming Special again. In the Tasman Series of about 1964, I was lucky enough to attend the Lady Wigram Trophy race in Christchurch NZ. It was the 3rd round of the championship, held at Wigram airfield. Bruce McLaren had some dramas and his Cooper was unable to compete. I think Jim Boyd was the owner of the Lycoming at that time and he offered it to Bruce for the main race. Having not practiced in it , he was forced to start from the rear of the grid. It certainly showcased his talent as he came through to finish 3rd, in an unfamiliar car. The Lycoming was a fearsome beast, known throughout NZ. It had enormous torque out of corners and for a sportscar to mix it with the 2 and a half litre Tasman cars of that era driven by the likes of Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt, Dickie Attwood, Piers Courage, Frank Gardner to name a few, shows what a formidable car it was. I had heard that it was still competing in NZ so it is great to see it.

Have to thank and acknowledge the British people and co for maintaining Bruce's achievements and keeping his legendary legacy alive in such authentic way. Watching the F1 stars today it's reminds me and makes me feel so proud that Bruce layed the foundation and remain an inspiration to likes of yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's mega stars all over the world. Bruce McLaren will always live in our minds and hearts forever long and his legacy will live longer than any motorsport including the highest of them all formula 1. It reminds me of who I am and how proud and honoured to be a fellow Kiwi and would like to take it upon myself the opportunity to say thank you from the bottom of my motoracing heart. Long live the Kiwi legend and all the people that keep his legacy alive forever for us Kiwis especially to celebrate the life of a legend. Respect.🇳🇿🎉🏆🇬🇧🏎️
