Mays' son and only next of kin, we ask that members of the Flint community disregard the recent announcement regarding the late Councilman's funeral arrangements. Those funeral arrangements were made and announced by several estranged, rogue members of the Mays family who, along with the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, have refused to turn over the late Councilman's body to Mr. Mays, who is the only person under Michigan law with the legal right to possess his father's remains. To date, our investigation into the actions of these individuals has uncovered questionable, if not downright fraudulent, activity on their part. Incredibly, some of the people we believe to have carried out this fraudulent activity were at the candlelight vigil for the late Councilman, acting like they did nothing wrong. As far as Moon Funeral Home having the body someone called Moon to come pick up the body. Did someone in the family call Moon without consulting with Hakeem? It seems so if he does not want Moon to have the body. Hakeem can get his dad's body moved to another funeral home, but he is going to have to pay Moon for their services and pay the mortician that he wants to have the body for their services as well. It seems there are more questions to this. I was wondering what Hakeem's plans for the body are. Anyway, that part should not be hard as long as what Hakeem wants to do is legal. As for Mayor Neely that is an easy one, he should do as stated in the video give the proclamation to someone else to read on behalf of the office of the mayor. Mayor Neely should not want to go somewhere that he is not invited. That is just common sense.

As a family member who was in the home, he was pronounced dead, at 9:11 PM. There were dozens of community members lining the streets, going live on Facebook, trying to capture the body being removed from the home. The statement was released by the city approximately an hour later after consulting the family to quiet and limit public perception of his passing and its cause. Although you stood in close proximity, I believe on the sidewalk in front of the house, you would have 0 idea of what was actually occurring within the home.

A family member, i.e, on the scene or at the hospital would have had to advise where to take Mr. Mays. This appears to be more internally with the family and NOT the Mayor.
