This is unbearable to watch a second time......yet, it is priceless footage of a lovely man, friend and musician...of one who will always be with us...till we meet again.

I got to know Hector while at Carey Grammar School, I shared a physics class with him, but knew of him before that because a name like Hector stands out! I got to know Hector better when we were both a part of the Valhalla Blues Brothers crew both at Richmond and later at Westgarth, along with several other Carey boys Craig Morley and Simon Yung, and boys from several other Eastern suburbs private schools.

Hector adopted the Cab Calloway scene at the Palace Hotel Ballroom where Cab performs Minnie the Moocher to entertain the crowd waiting for Jake and Elwood to arrive. Hector would dress up in a white tuxedo with tails and paint his face in black shoe polish and then perform Minnie the Moocher, solo, centre stage and really wow the audience. Much applause was to follow as that was a big scene to take on solo.

I can also recall seeing Hector in the Gents afterwards struggling to remove all the black shoe polish from his face before it got all over his tux. Ah, Hector. Such dedication. I think the use of shoe polish was due to the cost vs. stage make up I forgot to mention previously that Paul Jacobs was also part of the Carey Blues Brothers crew. Earlier this year was Class of '83 30 year reunion and I was shocked to see Hectors name amongst the fallen alumni. One of the Good Guys, a true gent gone.
