He was a friend of the Yippies. His books were great NYC novels. I got a chance to meet him when I saw him outside Balducci's in the Village while I was leading a tour group. A mensch, a real nice guy. R.I.P.

You're right, it's a crime to have skipped Kinky's musical side. I lived in El Paso in the late 1970s and I liked him a lot. I liked that he later on got involved in politics but I knew that the bad guys would've circled the wagons to shut him out(and they did, sadly). I was delighted to read in a magazine(in the early 1990s) that he referred to Garth Brooks as "The Anti-Hank." His witticisms were always sharp and weird -- he will be missed.
