Hollywood friends and celebrities are paying tribute to the legacy left behind by Sam Rubin, KTLA’s iconic entertainment news reporter who died Friday of a heart attack at the age of 64.
Rubin joined KTLA 5 Morning News in 1991, instantly making an impact with his encyclopedic knowledge of film and television and infectious charm. His news reports, interviews and feature segments were central to the morning broadcast and a hallmark of KTLA's brand.
Rubin spent his career interviewing countless notable figures in Hollywood and the entertainment industry, a role he treasured dearly.

I grew up with this man. Mark, Carlo and Barbara...I moved to Texas in 2020 and still watched KTLA as some form of HOME. These people, Sam, was Home!! He has left an undelible mark on our entertainment culture in Southern California. My heart goes out to his wife and four children. I also send players to the KTLA Family.

I grew up watching Sam Rubin as a kid before the school bus picked me up. To hear about his passing was so heartbreaking. At the time i was a kid and I didn’t know if I wanted to work in the tv/film industry later, but he definitely made an impact for me taking this route because he made tv look like so much fun. Thank you Sam for inspiring me to go into the entertainment industry. It won’t be the same without you ❤

I'm so sad he passed. Being from Canada, he was the only reason I tuned into KTLA. He made me feel so welcomed in the world of celebrity in 0:02 the early 90s and going forward. I loved watching him and his stellar interviews not only on KTLA but also as a trusted source on UK and Australua tv. I feel like I've lost a part of my daily life. You are missed Sam!

I grew up watching Sam and the morning crew. I remember them back when I was a kid in the 90's . Sam was a fixture in my household , it really feels like we lost a family member . I have never lived in the L.A. area but watched the KTLA morning show via cable television when I was raising my kids in the 90s. At one point, I discontinued the cable service so I was no longer able to enjoy the start of my day watching the show with Sam Rubin. His laugh was contagious and a wonderful day to start my day. Anytime I was down south in a hotel or wherever and I saw that the show was on, I would watch it. It was Sam that I would notice first. It was like running into an old friend that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Sam and the team just made my day.
