Remembering Richard Serra | What does it mean to be equal?

Every Serra installation I have ever experienced - indoors and outdoors - has moved me profoundly. A timeless Master of space and form!

Not sure if I would say "new shapes and new forms that had never been conceived of before in the history of the world" while talking about Equal, but Serra's work is indeed ethereal yet brutalist. I remember seeing Tilted Spheres in Toronto. It's a piece that engulfs the viewer and it plays with space and sound in a way I've never experienced before. I'm saddened by his passing, but glad that his art will continue his legacy

Sometime art pieces appear because, while many others had thought of the idea, found it lacking, and moved on to create something more interesting, someone eventually manages to get an investor to support the manifestation. Likely to occur in vulnerable locales such as NYC.
