I had the absolute pleasure in establishing a wonderful friendship with Ron. Ron and I cataloged his entire life's work together and together created his website. It took almost 18 months as his collection of cartoons, film conceptions, designs and artwork is massive! Each image had a story and I would sit with him and watch as he would look over each sketch, drawing or painting and absorb his extraordinary insight to our world and what lays ahead of us as a civilisation. After each session, we would drink red wine and talk of how we will survive the next 4000 years, conclusion…Love life, raise your kids, everything is going to be ok. Love you Ron, I will miss him for an eternity, you will always be like a father to me. Please allow time for Ron's website to load, he was insistent (and rightly so) that his work be projected in the highest quality possible.

Along with Syd Mead & Giger, I cant think of 3 men who's work shaped what science fiction looked like for the better part of half a century. He was truly one of the giants and his work will not be forgotten. It echoes now in the work of filmmakers like Nolan and Villenueve. You can see his influence all over the Dark Knight trilogy, in the tumbler, the bat bike etc.. and many others and will as long as good directors make sci fi films. He just got it right.

I am saddened by Cobb's death, but happy to see he was helping push research into diagnosis and treatment for the disease. My father died of Pick's Disease, which is another dementia related to Lewy.

This is heartbreaking, first we lost Mr. Mead earlier this year and now Ron Cobb! I worked at Forbidden planet in the San Fernando Valley, one one day I looked up from the register and he walked in the door ,to my eyes he was a rock star! My greatest sympathy to his family, he was a visionary and a great political cartoonist.

Outside of his work (which was amazing and inspirational), all I know of him as a man is what I've seen in the various behind the scenes material, and he always came across as very warm and friendly, and with a great sense of humour. No doubt all who got to meet and/or work with him will miss him greatly.

I'm enjoying this. Cobb's contribution is often passed over in favor of Giger's (incredible) contribution. Cobb created the believeable reality into which the monster burst; Giger's shocking monster would just be a shocking monster instead of part of a cohesive story without an environment we didn't accept as "our world." His cartoons and production designs are such great contributions. A great life. RIP.

Thank you for highlight how horrible Lewy Body Disease is not just to the patient but the family. My MIL died of this form of dementia. Most patients are first diagnosed as having Parkinson's due to the tremors that come as a first sign something is wrong. It isn't until they have a CAT Scan and the bodies are discovered that the diagnosis changes to Lewy Body. Its also fast for a dementia illness. Usually three years from the time of diagnosis. He was a giant in his field and was so sorry to hear not just of his passing but that he, too, had this disease.

Rip Ron Cobb. Thank you alien theory too for letting us know of the passing of these what i would call unsung hero's. Im a massive alien fan, aliens is my favourite film of all time and i would have never known who Ron Cobb was or what he did or even in fact that he had sadly passed without you letting us know. What saddens me is that i believe there will never ever be the same atmosphere in films again, movies of this age truly move, shock and amaze me and i have yet to see anything after 2000 that gives me the same feel.

The space suits were designed by Jean Moebius. The landscape of lv426 was designed by Giger. Cobb was an engineer so he made it looked like it actually worked. Ron Cobb was also the production designer on Conan the Barbarian.

It was Ron Cobb's idea to use Acid for Blood. It was his technical knowledge of how not to kill a creature on a spacecraft that gave Dan O'Bannon the ability to not just "shoot the damn thing".

Ron Cobb contributed so much to the visualization of science fiction, even today. I'm happy that his work continues to live on and it is so available to enjoy.
