I am as amazed and happy as anyone else, never thought we would see it back in operation this soon and hopefully this time the new bridge will be a little more resilient to extreme weather. The Loop is back on !! 😎👍

Great footage Hugh. Like you I’ve ridden that road many times & that section with the slip is my favourite part, some awesome corners & scenery. Be interesting to see how & if they will rebuild it.

Yes, agreed Deano, they have got their work cut out to try and remedy that section. It's going to make future rides to the Coromandel a much longer affair starting with a certain upcoming Whangamata ride 😎😆

Absolutely gutted about that slip. That piece of road was a riders dream. Hope the beach hop still goes ahead in March

Yeah mate, very unfortunate. Been over that road in both directions a lot in the last few years in all kinds of weather and it was always enjoyable. I hope Karangahake Gorge/Waihi route stays in good shape because I can foresee it's going to be getting a whole lot more traffic over the next year or so.

Cool vid mate, reminds us of that great road! I’m heading to Coromandel next month for the Annual Royal Enfield Rally and was planning on taking this route… unfortunately not now… Hopefully they fix it… it’s more likely than the Mangamuka’s up in the far North… Ride safe Cheers 😎

Thanks mate, yes plenty of people will be needing to remap their routes now and all I can say is the Coromandel Loop just recently got a whole lot bigger than before ! Like you I also hope they fix it but it's going to be a long term project, that's for sure . Ride safe 😎

😭 So sad to see the beautiful route destroyed. Hope you and everyone in your circle safe and all can be restored.

Well, most of the route is still there I suppose but the problem is up in the hills with a major section washed away and that's going to take some work to get back in operation. Thanks for your concern, all is well in my circle but many others not so lucky.

Nice vid Hugh. Shame it's closed looks like a scenic ride. Does anyone live on the road? Couldn't see any houses.
@HughBeRiding Жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul, the route was very scenic and enjoyable and I am glad we rode it as many times as we did over the last couple of years. It was strictly a non-residential road so no homes run off of it but it was a critical route for easy access between the East and West coastline of the Coromandel peninsula. Hopefully will be back in action soon but they have definitely played down any hopes of a speedy fix.

Although the road isn't residential, it still has quite a few farms along it (sheep and cattle), as well as a number of lifestylers living semi-off grid on smaller plots of land. All up, there are probably about forty to fifty occupied properties, of various types, along the entire length of the highway.

What is that device on left side on your handlebar?
@HughBeRiding Жыл бұрын
That is a radar unit, specifically an Adaptiv TPX Pro 3.0 model which is designed specifically for motorbikes.

I suspect it's going to slip again, that half the reason to plant up some areas with things other than pine. Gravity and rain. Pines arnt good there replace them. Seepage is better augmented.

I hope it doesn't slip again or at least if it does that the road and bridge remain upstanding. Time will tell I guess, I am quite surprised they finished the project so quickly and hope that other pressing roading projects around the country can be finished at such pace.
