I am an elementary school teacher in San Bernardino California. Sadly, my friend Karen Smith was killed, along with one of her students, a sweet little 8 year old named Jonathan Martinez, at their school, North Park Elementary in 2017. I could never truly get past her death, she was one of the people that encouraged me to get in to the profession, and now this. A couple of these babies look like some of my students. I don't have any more 'thoughts and prayers'. These families have gotten more than enough of that. We need ACTION. We've needed actions since April 20th, 1999 in Columbine. And sadly, we're never going to get them because 1/2 of this country's political will is about NOTHING but power. They operate with calloused, blood stained hands and dark hearts that care nothing about those who will be slaughtered and are defended by people too myopic to understand the true value of life has no political leanings.
