They got rid of our boxes on the West of England line and replaced them with axle counters. Spent a pound to save a penny and there are no end of problems and delays now. Yeovil Junction and Yeovil Pen Mill had the requisite black and white signal box cat. Thomas at Pen Mill was the last surviving cat on Network Rail.

so sad to see them boarded up broken windows rotting away these are part of our heritage we should save them, in chartham Kent the signal box is not used now but network rail has painted it up because the villages want it saved, in wye Kent it was in a bit of a state but it was dismantled and now it's at a heritage railway in Somerset

There used to be a wooden signalbox at Hackney where Lines converged, an then 1 no Longer, an they kept North London Line, an signalbox remained, as a sort of memorial, until a fire, of which perhaps some vandal started.

I believe the Shrewsbury box has been renovated as a museum

Shame that most of them have been closed and/or demolished! Were any of them saved?

Such a shame as they would have made beautiful homes with caricature . I just wish i was able to have owned one . Sad as railway history ...

Same here. I even thought of salvaging one of the smaller platform cabins to use as a summerhouse. Impossibly expensive.

Another good video. One idea which may appeal to you, or not, is to make a video on signal boxes like this one but a) the signal boxes don't have to be derelict b) you group them by their originating company e.g Midland, Great Northern, Great Eastern, L& Y etc, British Rail Types. A cursory search on KZbin suggests there are plenty of videos exploring the insides of signal boxes but none on signal box classifications (but someone might prove me wrong). However most important thing is for you to do what you enjoy.

What beautiful buildings and how sad to see them go. Is this the music of Mattia Cupelli that you have used?

Most signalboxes closed in the past few years are now classed as listed buildings... But this doesn't stop them from deteriorating though.... They are just left on the lineside to rot... Signalboxes are yesterday's technology.... Area Signalling Centres are the future... There will come a time within the next 30 years or so when the last operational traditional signalbox will be abolished. Signalboxes & Semaphore Signalling are becoming rarer & rarer... They were commonplace when I started as a Driver's Assistant in 1978, but were fast dying out when I retired as a Driver in 2018
