It was a sad day for tv and archeology when timeteam ended. It was genuinely one of the greatest contributors to the subject and nothing can replace it.

I still watch them over again. Because the show stretched over 20 years, It is interesting to watch the progression of technology tools of the show's crews against the backdrop of the archaeology. From transit, to total station theodolite, to RTK GPS, from AutoCAD 10 on DOS to 3D studio. All interesting along with the antics and the breathtaking archaeological history.

I kinda found my true love for history and archeology the day I started binge watching Time Team episodes on youtube. I now really only watch historical documentaries, tv programs about Wars through history, and the occasional NCAA football game. (Yes I do read as well and basically about the same subjects) Time Team has turned me away from dramatic movies because they cant hold a candle to real history and especially the suprise of what the archeologists would dig up next on Time Team. It's just too bad we dont have Time Team anymore or at least TV programs comparable. I live in the U.S. so we actually didnt have comparable tv programs here until we could look up the better stuff made in the U.K. on the internet. Also Guy is one of my favorite members of the Team even if he is a Roman lover if ive ever saw one 😆 lol.

The amazing thing about time team the program is now history. But what an amazing pice of history to I was so sad to see it was finishing. But thanks to catch up I can now watch every episode again. It was truly inspiring the roman digs did it for me but I loved watching them all. I’d love to see a modern version now days now the technology has moved on. What got me was the enthusiasm of all the team. It brought history to life. And made me interested in history as a youngster interested in nothing. I’m sure we could get a bunch of guys/ girls who are as interesting as the time team to make a new modern show please. Thanks Guy

One thing about TT for me, for whatever scripting or shortcomings it may have had... it was wonderful entertainment and education on the subjects. This is great-thanks for it!! I was hoping Guy would mention both Ancaster and the South Perrot dig (the supposed villa that became a prehistoric henge-one of my fave eps of the entire show); he only missed talking about the ep with four Roman temples. Most people's experience of history is studying it at school, which was often not so enjoyable. However, history makes us who we are. The success of this programme was that it brought the lives of those it investigated to life and the audience resonated with that. Also, the enthusiasm of all those who took part was infectious. The fact that we are still talking about the programme is a testament to all the people who were involved in its production. Thank you for this insight :D

I found the show on YT just before it ended. I have a Classical Studies BA, so it was absolutely my jam. I deal with insomnia, depression and anxiety, and the show was and is like a fun adventure, while in bed. And I always knew what Guy is alluding to; history is about human beings. Real people, who lost their brothers in war time Spitfire battles, or who were children witnessing battles. Archeology gives us a hint, a tease, of what happened to PEOPLE. People just like us. History is OUR story.

Thank you so much for the insights into what really happened on the Time Team episodes. I really enjoyed watching them, mainly because Great Britain has had such a long, interesting history. That had been recorded in some form or another. The Spitfire episode and the one about the bomber mid-air crash were the ones that were the most completely documented.

I too enjoyed Time Team, and watched it from day one. It was at it's best when they were called in by a farmer, or other member of the public to investigate a site. What spoilt it for me, was when they started doing digs on behalf of of organizations such as English Heritage and other archaeological groups. It was finally killed off when they brought in a new "Eye Candy" presenter, and Mick Aston left in disgust. The Spitfire dig was interesting, although Phil Harding didn't like that, or the other episode involving crashed WWII aircraft. He said it was like investigating a car crash. One thing not mentioned on the Spitfire dig, and understandably so, was that they also found human remains. I remember Guy sending me a PM on the old Ch4 Time Team forum group. Explaining why he was leaving the programme, which at the time I could fully understand.
