It is a very sad day with the passing of Wayne Shorter - a jazz master. While he lived a full, beautiful, and creative life, it is a tremendous loss for his family and the jazz community. For over six decades, he pushed the boundaries of music with unparalleled creativity, leaving an indelible mark on music. From Wayne’s work with Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Herbie Hancock, his music was inspired.
One of his most iconic compositions, "Footprints," has been on my mind a lot lately. I've played it at least a hundred times over the last few months, inspired by its beauty and depth. I'd like to share this live performance of the song where you can feel how Wayne’s music has already touched the next generation through the performance of two gifted young teenagers, Jack Lieberman on tenor sax and Max Gilbert on drums, along with myself on piano and Kevin Walt on bass. This is a small homage to a true genius.
Wayne’s music will continue to inspire and move generations to come. I wish him well on his journey…
Love, Mike
