This is what I shot at Marine Military Academy 1976 - 1979. I loved that rifle so very much. Be careful: I understand you need a special tool to fully disassemble the bolt with any chance of reassembly.

I bought a 40xb this year someone had recrowned it and put it into a H.S precision stock. It is by far the most accurate rifle I own made in 1965 when they switched to stainless steel barrels.

Well, I adjusted this trigger adjustment screw down to one. 75 pounds, and then yesterday at a shoot, I tried to adjust it more and now it won’t cock. Screwed up! Got to take the trigger group apart and see what I can do. Nuts!

Your rifle’s barrel stamps indicates it was made in September, 1961. There are several places online that sell the inserts for the front sight and your post is 7 months old as I write this so I’m sure you’ve found them by now. When you mentioned your rear sight I wondered if yours was frozen up, sometimes the old lubricant hardens and feels like Loctite! I found a guy in Maryland named Travis who knows how to resurrect the dead Redfield Olympic rear sights. He worked a miracle on one of mine a few years back and the sight has been spot on ever since. I own two of them, one with the original Redfield Olympics and the other has a period Lyman 10X; both are shooters. Their barrel stamps are from August and September of 1961. I’ve tried many of the rounds you tried and my rifles like the SK Rifle Match and the CCI Std Velocity. Hope you enjoy your 40X as much as I’ve enjoyed mine. Cheers!

Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed response. Yes, I am truly enjoying my 40-X. I was able to get the rear site loosened up using various solutions designed to do so like liquid wrench, Kroil. The front site was replaced with an adjustable iris. Presently, I have a scope on the 40-X for outdoor 50 yard shooting. Thanks for watching!

What size groups do you get at 50 yards with the SK and CCI SV? I have a 40X that I've only shot with Federal Automatch, and have gotten horrible results. I tried the Automatch because my Ruger 10/22 Target model loves it, with 1/3" groups at 50 yards. I'm hoping to find ammo that will give me 0.33" to 0.35" groups at 50 yards with the 40X. I haven't competed in decades, but was master class, a member of the NRA's 1600 Club, and used to shoot 400x40 routinely at 50 yards. I still love to shoot for precision. Thanks in advance!

@ My accuracy varies with the CCI and the SK from one hole clusters to 1.5-2”. The range I shoot on seems to funnel air currents on some days like crazy and the other days, it’s calm. I’ve also had some luck with a bit of Lapua that I picked up when it was only $6.99 a box… If I were shooting for real, I’d suck it up and painfully shoot the Lapua but since I’m shooting for groups, by myself, I usually shoot the CCI due to it’s affordability. Don’t get me wrong, the CCI is good but the Lapua is better, but you pay for the increased consistency!

When I was a teenager (50 years ago), I shot match rifles at a local gun club. If I remember correctly, we had Remington and Winchester target rifles. The triggers were set at 3#. I don't know why people have to set the triggers so light. Three pounds is a good, safe trigger pull.
@farleyjj1 Жыл бұрын
3 lb triggers were probably regulated for high schoolers. In competitive shooting today, that is HEAVY. A light trigger greatly aids accuracy, as I'm sure you know. A 3 lb trigger would be ok for hunting. Do you shoot competitively? Thanks for watching.
@garyhammond2213Ай бұрын
@@farleyjj1 I don't shoot competition anymore. My health is starting to decline. I'm still OK, but now admit I'm an old guy. I still like target rifles like the Rem 40x and Win 52. I didn't know guys were shooting less than 3# triggers. I learned something.

@ a bunch of old-timers shoot Benchrest, indoors, 50 feet, with the aperture sights. You could do something like that as well. Some of us do not enjoy great health, but I Benchrest shooting is fun for us.

On this .22, you can really tell the accuracy of it unless you're shooting on the bench at 50 yards on sand bag rest. There's a big difference between indoor and out door shooting. All ammo will perform the same at 50 feet indoors as opposed to out doors.

I missed one in a shop by a week about five years ago. The collector did sell me one of several 513 Matchmaster military rifles he had. I could have bought a Winchester 52 military issue also I settled with the Remington. It has been a good rifle. @@farleyjj1

Don’t adjust the trigger lighter. If you want a single stage get a jewell. 2 stage you can’t beat a anschutz 50:18 trigger.

@@farleyjj1 rad! I didn’t catch if it was a repeater (if it is then you won the lotto!) as I had to sell mine as well as my anschutz 54:18 franken hunter w a Steve Wooster stock.
