I still have my nylon 66 that my grandfather( a great man, rip)gave to me when I was about 8 years old. I am now 53, and I would never part with it for 2 reasons....1) it has great sentimental value to me , and 2) its a damn fine little .22 rifle. I know I fired at least 10,000 rounds through it, and I'm ashamed to admit, that I never cleaned or oiled it, and it always worked fine. I neglected it then out of ignorance, but it gets much better care now I'm happy to say.

Almost the same story. My Father left me a gun collection that was stolen shortly after his death. I have his S/W 357 and his Nylon 66. just lucky they didn't find them. I too did not appreciate this rifle until I watched this video. Thank you very much for going through the history.

Great review. My Uncle handed down my 1959 Nylon 66 to me 35 years ago. What a great legacy to hand down to my children. BTW, still shoots as straight as the day I received it.

I found one for $120 years ago and it shoots great!! I also found a Nylon 10C which is basically the same rifle but is clip fed. The day after I bought it I shot a CMP rimfire sporter match and managed a silver medal shooting open sights. Great rifles!!!

Many Thanks...a great video. Just bought my second nylon 66. I bought it from a friend at Guncrafters here in Salem Oregon. I'm 67 and I got my first nylon 66 when I was just a kid. My Dad got it for me as a birthday present when I was 13 0r 14. Shot it many, many times. Both of my nylon 66's look just like the one in this video. It brings back many wonderful memories!!!

If I remember right, you could also get it in a green stock. Thank you for sharing. I had a 1969 Remington Model 550-1, .22 short, long, or long rifle with a walnut stock, that I got for Christmas in 1970. It was a good accurate rifle, it was bad about jamming in very cold weather. Thank you for sharing.

Inherited on from my grandpa. Love the gun. My grandpa had his for 40 years. He actually found it while out trapping lol. Brought it home, oiled it up and put it back together. Became his favourite rabbit gun etc and target gun. Still looks great after many years of use. It holds 15 in the butt and one in the chamber. Havent seen mine in along time up north in storage at an uncles. Nice to see one like it fire again. Makes me wanna dust it off in the spring 👍👍

Yes, Remington made the 550 series rifles too. My dad bought his 550-1 new, and I still have it! It shoots well but is nowhere as versatile and handy as the Nylon 66. I was born in August of 1946 and will be 78 all too soon. When I was 6 years old, my father bought me my first .22 single-shot rifle, a Stevens Model 15. In 1959, a friend who owned a gun shop sold me one of the very first Nylon 66s produced. Remington sold its Nylon line of guns with a lifetime guarantee on the stock! Unbreakable they said! Well, that wasn't exactly true. You see, another gun dealer friend of mine had the whole gun except for the stock which had broken at the wrist and had been tossed away, He gave me the parts because he knew I had one. I remembered the stock guarantee and contacted Remington who promptly sent me a new stock at no charge. I reassembled the gun and it shot as good as new! I do remember that the one flaw the Nylon 66 has is when I mounted any scope on the stamped receiver, it would not stay in sight. I attributed this to be caused by the receiver being mounted to the stock by two bolts that only went through the stock and not touching the barrel assembly; Thus, if the stock moved at all, the scope moved too, knocking off the scope alignment with the barrel. Back then, I bought copper-clad Federal Hi-Power 22s by the 5000 round case for less than 2 cents per round! So much for some of the memories of an old gas passer!

My first gun back in the mid '70s. Picked up 2 in the last few years, a Mohawk Brown and an Apache Black. Great guns. Never get tired of pulling the bolt back on that first round and watching the round leap into the chamber. :) Also own a Mohawk Brown Nylon 12 bolt action.

I'm 68 and still have my favorite gun...a Remington Nylon 66 and it's a lever action! When I was about 15 it got run over by the family car and my mom sent it in to Remington with it's cracked stock. We found out it had a lifetime warranty and they replaced the entire stock free of charge and quickly sent it back to us. How cool is that? Amazing accuracy...I would always be surprised I could hit such small long range targets with it...with no optics even though it was "grooved" for it.

My dad has one of these and it is still very accurate even under dirty situations. The tubular magazine holds 14 rounds and the shells are fed my a spring loaded rod that pushes them forward into the receiver. Make sure to count your shells as you're loading though or you'll have to drop a couple back out though.

I had a Mohawk Brown in high school but foolishly sold it later. I lived on a big lake in Texas and never went anywhere without it. Bought a nice one like yours recently, made in Jan of 1970. Tried to zero the factory sights today and ran out of adjustment. It was still shooting 5 inches high/left at 25 yards with the rear sight all the way down and to the right. Looks like this one is going to get a peep, red dot or small scope.
@deerflyguy1907
@deerflyguy1907 8 ай бұрын
Sound like your receiver plate (on which the rear sight is attached) is somewhat bent downward at the point of attachment? Try shimming the receiver plate to take up any bend it may have, or if bent down, gently take the bend out of the plate bringing the rear sight up to level with the rest of the plate. You probably don't need much adjustment. If you can't fix your problem, contact Remington for a replacement receiver plate assembly - if they still have parts in stock. No matter what type of optics you are thinking about installing on the Nylon 66, you will NOT be satisfied with them! Nylon 66s were meant to be shot using open sights - NOT OPTICS! Optics must be attached to the receiver plate which is only attached to the nylon stock and not the barrel assembly, thus the optics are NOT solidly fixed to the barrel and will wander after being sighted in. This is a design flaw. Even though the rear sight is also attached to the stamped receiver plate, and thus does some wandering too, open sights are much more forgiving and less accurate than scope crosshairs or red dots, and peep sights won't be any better than the open sights that came with the gun.

Well, Joel,...I was just so surprised to see that you made a video of this rifle. I had a girlfriend, ( well I think I had more than one over the years ) waaaaayyy back in the late '50's early 60's and she bought me a Remington Nylon 66 like the one you have there EXCEPT,..the one I had was black where your sample is brown and the receiver cover and barrel are chrome plated, I can assure you this was a great looking .22 rifle. I still have it, although, sadly, not in as good condition as your there. These are though, great rifles, and I found that mine is accurate too. I wish I could find a new or nearly new black stock to replace the damaged one I have. As I live in Canada, and our two countries won't allow shipping of rifles, ammunition or parts across the border, I can't get a stock. However it is still 'shootable' and every now and then I take it out to the range for some plinking. I really appreciated this video, as it brings back memories, ( all kinds of memories ) Hahaha.

That's a big thank you. , Now I know why it was called Nylon 66, it really was a good hunting rifle squirrel and rabbit, I mean that rifle couldn't eat enough ammo, I think the 22 caliber philosophy was an incredibly good practice to grow up on, if you learned how to shoot the nylon 66, then you could probably shoot anything else,

I have a little trigger time with the 66 and I assure you the dust cover is not alum. It is steel. If your 66 starts jamming and you just cleaned make sure the bolt is not binding on the receiver. If it is loosen the screws that hold the cover on just a tad.

My 66 has a cracked stock. Anyone out there know what adhesive was used to fasten the butt plate on? Somebody must know. Remington glued them together in the first place. Any help will sure be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't ever take one apart, it was next to impossible to put back together. I had to get help from a gunsmith, as soon as I walked into the store with it he said "you tried to take it apart didn't you?" He said that you really don't need to take it apart to clean it, just spray WD-40 into the chamber and then oil it and rod the barrel and that's all you'd need to do, I wish I still had it, it shot like a dream.

I HAVE a Remington Model 33. Inherited it from my Dad's brother. He would be around 94 if he were still alive, and he bought his 33 when he was a boy for $5. So, in my estimation, my rifle is close to 90 years old. Looks new and is very accurate. Was the very first gun I ever shot, at around age 6, and I'm now 61. This is a great little gun!

so this gun is in a way very loosely related to the famous “dupont fiber woven bowl 24 piece set” scene from napoleon dynamite
