As a native of South Carolina, I don't often get the chance to experience much of traditional Chinese culture and music, or many other cultures for that matter, as many here lack an interest in the traditions and cultures of others. Your channel and the music that you share has inspired me to seek out new knowledge and experience regarding Chinese culture and other cultures of the world. Banjo Dan I would suggest checking out some Chinese musical instruments like the Ruan (阮) or the Sanxian (三弦) though they are kind of rare compared to say the Guzheng or Erhu - but more importantly the type of genre (not everything is peaceful meditation music with slow paced erhu, guzheng or flute that has over-saturated and represented the media); most would assume Chinese Trad.Music consist of only one genre which is akin to calling Chinese a language rather than specifying Mandarin or other dialects.

And zeiitgeist I very much agree with your statement that there's more to a culture's traditional music than just one genre. I think a similar statement would be that American "traditional" music (I use the term kinda loosely as American culture is relatively young and diverse in the grand scheme of things) consists of purely Country music. There's also genres such as Jazz and my personal favorite, bluegrass that have deep American roots. I took your recommendation and I very much enjoyed the sound of the Sanxian. (It reminded me of the Banjo, but that may be a poor comparison.) It is such a fascinating instrument and I will definitely endeavor to find more of this music.

Eastern Cultures are so colorful and inspiring! Everything from Arab inspired North Africa to Asian inspired Polynesia (I include both those regions in my definition of the Eastern World). I grew up with Anime so it was natural that I'd take notice of Japanese Culture. From there, I discovered Chinese Culture & Indian Culture and now I'm interested in all Eastern Cultures as well as Mesoamerican Cultures (Aztec, Maya, etc.) & Oceanic Cultures (Hawaiian, Maori & other indigenous islanders of the south pacific). My interest in Archeaology also aided me on my discovery of different cultures and past civilizations (as well as the fact that I just find American culture rather bland). I'm glad the both of us were able to think outside the box! I hope that you will continue your journey of cultural diversity as will I (I've even made it one of my goals to travel all around the world to see and experience all of these amazing cultures!).

I'll write the story behind the song written by Yijia Xin from the vocaloid version: In the north at the city of Chang An, there was a man that really loved the lotus in his garden. The lotus then reincarnated as a young woman for her master and followed him everywhere, never separating from him. They fell in love and were very happy together. She was very beautiful, but as we say, the more beautiful you are, the shorter is your life. When winter arrived, her soul disappeared and the man could never see her again.

Yeah she did it’s one of my favorites from her!!! It think the song goes that a man really liked a red lotus that was in his garden and the red lotus was reincarnated as a girl and they fell in love but her life was very short so by winter she had already died. It’s bittersweet for me!!

Meryem Chopra actually those traditional han dress on the picture already gone since invation of manchurian from northern part close to mongolian on 1600 And manchurian push chinese to stop wear han dress and start to wear manchus"s dress and follow their rules Manchurian ruled china since 1600-1912 and in 1800's when british people and french came to china, they modified manchu's dress to become modern style called cheongsam So cheongsam is from manchurians dress and manchurian were not chinese And real chinese dress is just the same like japanese kimono and korean hanbook And now some of chinese people try to bring their own traditional dress back which is forgotton for. The Chinese have a uniquely beautiful history that will probably never be out-shined and I envy it as well. It is a different world now though and people have to adapt to survive. It's just not practical for a lot of them to live that way everyday anymore. I am sure a lot of them wish times were still simple as well. Hope all is well with you.

The Chinese culture is steeply founded on the concept of Yin and Yang. This simply means harmony with the forces of the universe, which are essentially positive and negative, male and female, strong and weak, light and darkness, aggression and docility - meaning the two eternally opposing forces. The Chinese believe that there is risks and casualties in going against a prominent force of yin or yang. One must flow or ride along with the prominent force of the minute, day, month, year or decade if one desires wealth, friendship, health and all things in life. If the environment does not agree with you, you need to move to another place that agrees with you or you modify your goals so that they agree with your environment. This is the crux of Chinese philosophy culture, art and existence. Be like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. If you put water into a bowl, it becomes a bowl. You are the water. This is the essence of Chineseness. This is the essence of all Chinese art and culture - art of martial art, art of cooking, art of competition, art of success, art of war, art of living, etc. This is why when you see any Chinese art or hear traditional Chinese songs, you notice a certain flow with the universal force. This flow is the art of harmony with the two forces, which you can feel in your deepest being. And this is art at its universal best. This is ancient wisdom. It is priceless if you can grasp the principle - especially in these modern times. It can bring you true peace, fulfillment, greater enlightenment and true happiness because you become ONE with the universe.
