I live in northeast Alabama. Coal was mined around here during the 70s and various open pits that were once mines are now ponds filled in with water. There are however, road cuts exposing sandstone from the Carboniferous and you can sometimes find plant fossils like the stigmaria, which are the root structures of the trees mentioned in the video called lycopsids.

The miners know, In the realm where diamonds glow. Underground, where secrets keep, Echoes of a silence deep, Where rocky trees in slumber sleep, Guarding tales that time will reap. Such wonder does the earth bestow, Only the miners truly know. Fossilized forest, a sight to see, A testament to what used to be. In layers of stone, the memory, Of a time before the human spree. We tread with care and move quite slow, In respect to the beauty the miners show. So let us learn from what we saw, And treat the earth with a gentle paw. The rocky trees in silent awe, Speak a truth that shakes us raw. Respect the depths that life can go, This is what the miners know.
