Thanks for the great video. The video really made the difference for me in figuring this out. I have a Kenwood TM-D710A and a TH-D72A and TH-D75A and found this was very helpful. I found to enter wireless remote control operation on the Kenwood TM-D710A transceiver, I had to set the A side and the B side of the mobile to VFO mode in addition to moving the PTT / CTRL on the A side before I turn off the transceiver and turn it on again to enter wireless remote operation mode by pressing REV and ON. After I was in remote control mode I could switch to Memory mode by pressing PTT holding and pressing 9. If side A was on Memory mode I could not turn it on and off and have it enter remote control mode. I put this note up for myself or anyone else in the future to reference this. Also the A band has to be on a 2m frequency, if it is on a 70cm frequency it won't allow cross band repeating as the frequencies for control and transmit are too close.

Too bad that feature is no longer available in the newer ones though. :-( Just read that the DTMF "remote Control" of the radio shown in the video is no longer available in 2 Kenwood models; Kenwood TM-V71A, and TM-D710GA: TM-V71A serial number B8610081, and above, and TM-D710GA serial number B8610001, and above do not have the DTMF remote control of the radio feature because manufacturer can no longer get the DTMF chips. I wish I would have seen that article before I ordered one literally hours before reading the article! Article in qrz that was started o July 7, 2019 titled: "Kenwood tm v-71a wont enter remote control mode".

My old baofeng has A,B,C,D as yours does, but my newer ones have C,A,B,D which made this way too confusing. #ThanksBaofeng!

Great Video..Thanks for the information. I live in a condo and cannot have any antennas in the air. I will be installing the V71A in my car and using the remote control to work local repeaters. I'm so glad I found this video. I didn't realize you could remote control the radio this way. I thought I was stuck on using X-band repeat only which would require going out to the car to change the frequencies each time. Rob L. Michigan.

Hey Dave, did you get the chance to upload the instruction sheet you mentioned at the end of the video? I ordered my TM-V71A yesterday and can't wait to get it and start playing. I’m not sure if you take requests, but are you planning on doing any EchoLink or packet videos? I think packet would come in very handy in EComm situations

My question Dave is how do you just split the left side (VHF) from the right (UHF) just basic? When I programed 40 UHF repeaters on the right side, I was in VFO mode to switch over to program VHF repeaters on the left. I noticed when I hit the memory button, all UHF repeaters were now on the left side as well as the right. I'm a little confused on separating the bands as a dual band radio. Please advise??? I must be choo nged with this new fangled electric-tricity stuff. I"m programming my Kenwood, TM -V7A and I entrered my call sign. and it locked the power on function to where its loced up. So I have to program in a password, usting a MCP-2A prigram. Soi where do I find one?
