Thanks for your input. I believe that remote ID is about control of the hobby and you will have to comply somehow if you want to continue to do what you should be legally entitled to do. I hope you have not hurt anyone or taken out a full sized aircraft we don’t know about. That would give them justification for what they are doing.

I'm partway through my first build since school.. a 3D printed Cub which should turn out around 500g. No camera, no FPV (not that they're bad things!) just a remote control aircraft as has been flown by hobbyists for DECADES. Apparently I need to join a BMFA affiliated club, join the BMFA, register myself, do an online exam, then register EACH model aircraft - AND the CAA are "exploring whether and how " to impliement remote ID. Sod off. Thank you.

I agree with your comment it would be easy to get depressed about it , however my response to RID is that it is so badly put together by FAA (in other countries it's the same) that it should be thrown in the bin (or stick it some other place!!) RID is a train wreck and they do not have the right to tell us to follow an extremely bad law. When you consider this carefully you will find that RID will have the opposite affect to safety (and the safety issue which they like to push is total rubbish) As an example a crook will be able to repeat the Gatwick airport drama (and at any airport around the world with ease) by simply dropping a Remote ID near a runway (crooks can throw it out of a moving car window) and security will not find the crooks. So to FAA stop Remote ID madness.

I fly mostly fixed wing aircraft like scale warbirds and sailplanes, and have since the 90's, but with the current rules most of my planes will be illegal to fly without RID even though many are lighter than a NFL Football and fly slower... like you pointed out, In many of the smaller ones that are just over 250g there is also no place to put it that won't severely impact the flight characteristics. in many cases I'd end up needing to put it way forward or back of the CG and need to add an equal weight opposite it to balance the aircraft, making a 25g module effectively 50 grams with the counter weight.... adding 50g to a 300-400g model will greatly increase it's stall speed and make it much more difficult to safely fly and especially land, assuming it still has the power to weight ratio to fly at all. and like you mentioned, none of this even takes the financial aspect into account, $150-300 per module is often more than I spend to build a scale model from scratch. there is no complete module for $50 like the FAA estimated, the dronetag BS is the cheapest at $100 + ~$20 in antennas and ~$20 shipping and for me comes out at about $140 to get one complete unit. the only application I can see something similar to RID having a use is for the GPS camera drones that you can "fly" with a tablet- most of them can basically fly themselves. And when flying beyond VLOS, and even then it would need to be reworked to actually be similar to ADS-B and be seen by aircraft and ATC's.

Thanks for the calm explanation of how the remote ID would affect your hobbies. I saw some other videos including xjet and I was having trouble understanding why people were so mad. Your example of the airport that was shut down because of a UAV flying near the runway seems to me to be the kind of situation that the remote ID is supposed to address. If a UAV is spotted in the wrong place, they want to be able to find out who put it there. Nobody cares about a UAV not interfering with aviation, but they want the remote ID to address a tiny number of cases that were interfering.
@stevenfollows1205 Жыл бұрын
What about if someone uses a RID on purpose near an airport, just to cause trouble, it may be one they stole from you, scary scenario.
@ericfielding2540 Жыл бұрын
@@stevenfollows1205 People steal cars and commit crimes with them also. A stolen RID should be reported like a stolen car. It seems unlikely that the owner of a car or UAV RID would be held responsible for what a thief does with their device.
@LoveRC Жыл бұрын
RID will not stop the bad actors
@ericfielding2540 Жыл бұрын
@@LoveRC Yes, the RID itself won’t stop bad actors, but they can quickly determine which UAV is registered and which is not. The remote ID should be more difficult to spoof than a car with fake license plates.
@Discopuss Жыл бұрын
The major issue is not how any of us will be personally inconvenienced by the regulations. The real issue is how Remote ID can be co-opted by malicious individuals seeking to disrupt gov't and commercial air traffic control. 1 joker with an RID could shut down an entire airport, grounding all aircraft until the device is found. Understand that an actual drone is not required to do this, just some what of getting the signal into the system. The point is how poorly conceived this regulation is and the chaos it is about to cause for people completely unrelated to the hobby.

My take is, as long as you fly responsibly in a FRIA area, ie sanctioned airfield remote id is not required. But if you fly your drones in populated areas, stadiums, near airports, subdivisions and crowds of people irresponsibly and actually endangering people, you are the problem and the Faa wants to stop you.
@slapdat.byteme Жыл бұрын
Except that’s not really why the FAA wants to stop you. They want you out of the non-FRIA airspace below 400’ AGL in order to clear that airspace for commercial delivery UAVs. Period. Good luck to them; I’ll be flying non-compliant in that airspace.
@slammerf16 Жыл бұрын
There are no FRIAs and even if they were, they wouldn't be granted for any of the locations you mention, so how has the public been protected? Are you suggesting that someone who flies over a sport stadium would switch on their remote ID first??
@spyder000069 Жыл бұрын
This basically puts an end to park flying. Even if you had a remote id device every karen with the phone app would be reporting you and according to their video it can be escalated up to the fbi level. Imaging a world where people riot, walk right out of stores with merch in hand, burn buildings, drive without speed limits, and the govt lets them off the hook and wants to come after you for your park flyer. Even your back yard flying is under attack. That is the world we live in.

If you actually get in an airplane and look at the air space, you realize unless theyare taking off or landing, just about all aircraft fly above cell tower height... usually by a whole lot.... 10x cell tower height... many several thousand feet. Commercial airliners even higher... 31,000ft. Your typical hobby quad or plane is going tobe fiddling around uner cell tower height. If you're flying an airplane or helicopter under cell tower height, and you're not taking off, landing, or crop dusting, then you're doing some pretty sketchy hot shot flying and you take your own life into your hands because of wires, birds, etc. The space airrcraft and hobby rc occupies is completely different, which makes the FAA's rationale completely observe... when you observe the huge amount of ocean that the sky is from inside a private plane looking down. Watch any flying video and you'll see, they aren't even in the same space.
