Great content Greg & team! One note with respect to Remote ID for the Air 2s with the Smart Controller. After performing all the necessary software and firmware updates I could not get rid of the constant Remote ID Error (Code: 161000B4) and the accompanying Unable to takeoff (Code: 30064) error in the DJI Fly app. However, what I was finally able to figure out is if you leave the Fly app and perform the following steps you will finally clear those error messages and be able to fly: - Pull down the device menu from the top of the screen. - Go to the Setup screen (via the gear icon at the top) - Scroll down to the "Personal" section and click on "Location" (which, in my case, was set to OFF) - Flip the switch from Off to On - Choose whatever location "Mode" you prefer (I kept the default of "Device only") - Back out of the settings menu and reboot the controller. - Problem solved! PS - Disappointingly, a call to DJI Technical Support on this issue was not helpful in surfacing the eventual solution documented above!

This is from DJI We are sorry to inform you that Mavic Air 2 cannot comply with the Remote ID rule by upgrading firmware currently. I'd love to give you a clear yes or no but it is not determined yet whether we will release RID-compliant firmware for Mavic Air 2. Thanks for your understanding. You do not need to take any action until September 16, 2023. On and after that date, if you continue to use the drone, you will have to comply with the rule in either of the two ways described below: Operate a drone with a Remote ID broadcast module giving the drone's identification, location, and take-off information. A broadcast module is a device that can be attached to a drone, or a feature (such as a software upgrade) integrated with the drone. Persons operating a drone with a Remote ID broadcast module must be able to see their drone at all times during flight. 2. Operate (without Remote ID equipment) at FAA-recognized identification areas (FRIAs) sponsored by community-based organizations or schools. FRIAs are the only locations unmanned aircraft (drones and radio-controlled airplanes) may operate without broadcasting Remote ID message elements. If you decided to comply with rule by adding a Remote ID module to the drone, kindly be noted that the Remote ID module you purchase must be FAA-approved. Follow the Remote ID module instruction manual to properly install it on the drone. You also need to add Remote ID module information such as make, model, and serial number to the FAA drone registry.

Greg, as a follow-up note: We tested one of our DJI drones today (Air2s) to determine whether or not Remote ID transmission is active within the aircraft (all firmware updates were installed). The "Remote Functionality" message was not indicated on the DJI RC (as you denoted around the "6:30 mark" of your presentation). However, we did launch the Drone Scanner App (Android) and our aircraft was accurately identified instantly within the app. Thus, we are now confident the aircraft's RID is operating, "A-OK!" What happens if you have an old DJI mavic 2 pro drone? the app won't let you fly?
@joshuataylor1642 Жыл бұрын
I am guessing this doesn’t work for recreational drone users. When I go into my account it only allows me to cancel my drone or look at details. Edit is not an option.
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you have to cancel a drone and re-add it under recreational.

The remote ID modules are available? Did I miss an overview of available devices?

We haven’t done one. Still too early. We will this summer as we get closer.

In the video he mentions during the Autel section that the Mini does not need to be RID compliant if flying for recreational purposes. Does also go for DJI Mavic Mini and Mini 2? I thought all drones had to be complaint by Sept. 2023. Why does the Mini Drones don't have to be compliant?
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
Drones flown under recreational purposes that are sub-250g don’t need remote ID.
@geezerpleasers_OG Жыл бұрын
Regarding updating your registration to indicate remote ID compliance, what about recreational fliers who have one registration number for all of their drones?
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
You will go in your inventory in the droneZone on the recreational side and add it there for each drones individually. Your registration won’t change and it should be free.

Greg, if you have a BVLOS waiver, have you made a range test of how far RID WiFi from DJI drones will reach? I can see the RID of my Air2S on my iPhone WiFi, but I can't see far enough to make a range test. Do we know how much WiFi output and on which frequencies the FAA required before issuing a DOC?
@Kevin-ib4gv Жыл бұрын
Find the highest area you can. Roof maybe? Secure the drone, remove the props, fire everything up, get in your car and drive. You'll know the range when you lose the RFI signal.

Great Video.. Did everything as you said but the FAA does not agree! They Rejected my AIR 2 S even though everything is correct. The SN is within the range.. ... so now what?
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
When you say rejected, can you be more specific? Did it give you an error message?

If you have a sub 249 gram drone and you register it does it need to also have remote ID? Because i wanted to register my mini 3 pro to use the bigger battery but not if i also need remote id. Unless its automatic on the mini 3? Thanks for giving us all this information.
@kensteele3363 Жыл бұрын
rid on the mini 3 pro is automatic, you don't have a choice. according to dji, the mini 3 pro will transmit rid regardless. whatever you put into the faa portal is up to you. your heavy mini 3 pro must at least have a registration sticker.

Where can we find a list of approved RID modules? Shopping around is not getting any real results for me.
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
They are in the same location on the DOC website for the FAA. You might need to dig a bit more because there is no way to filter by module.
@dutchovenguy Жыл бұрын
DJI is indeed a mess. For my Air 2S with the latest updates, the Aircraft Flight Controller serial number is NOT the same as new RID serial number. The RID serial number conforms to the format you describe, 1581F . . . . To create the RID, SN. it looks like DJI took the original ID, put the 1581F in front and added a zero at the end.The Flight Controller SN remains the old serial number that the drone was manufactured with. Maybe newer manufactured drones have the same numbers for both functions.

Sir that will fix the problem for the aircraft but; what about the remote? There is not gps on the Master Zorro for example! How we going to broadcast the pilot position?
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
You don’t broadcast pilot location with a module.
@panoramic_life38 Жыл бұрын
@@PilotInstitute sir, i was reading and they want the pilot location as well, I know dji already have that,but no others quads! With this module we can fix 50% of the problem because we will be able to broadcast the quad but not the pilot, and they want the pilot as well!
@PilotInstitute Жыл бұрын
The pilot location is not a required element for the remote ID message if you have a module.
