Johnny? you mean VirtualizationGuy. RemoteFX requires a DirectX 10 capiable card with at LEAST 512MB RAM, while only specific ATI/NVIDIA cards are 'officially supported' you can use just about any video card for testing. As far as an 'external VDI viewer' there is currently only 1 software application that supports the latest RDP codec, and that is RDP on Windows 7 With SP1. There are a few thin clients in the works from Wyse, and other vendors.

@joaomovie I used an officially supported video card for this demo. I used an ATI FirePro V7800. I used the Server 2008R2 driver for this card.

3 monitors at 1600x1200 give you the max video memory at 330MB. There is a table in TechNet with the various allotments entitled "Hardware Considerations for RemoteFX."

What kind of graphics driver would it support? lets say with ATI 6xxx series on the Server would I need special graphics card driver?

Hi I would like to know which video driver did you used on host to make a non supported video graphic work on remotefx? Maybe it's my HD 4850 the problem? thanks in advance...

Multipoint Server 2011 was designed for standard lightweight applications such as Word or Excel. It was only designed for 2D multi-tasking (multiple windows/apps) and not 3D. Multipoint 2012 will include Hyper-V, and may or may not have RemoteFX capabilities. However I have not done any research in the matter.

If you've got the correct hardware and are running a good LAN connection this can be pulled off super well.

The OpenGL test application I used Is from a medical application. Unfortunatly it is not avaliable to the general public. You could use any OpenGL benchmark application, however.

With windows 10 pro does this still require an enterprise edition of windows 10? I have a 4k monitor so the higher resolution is needed. I need to run some stuff in sandboxed VM. I could leverage the GPU as well, but I've been unable to get it working. I'm assuming windows 10 still requires enterprise edition?

No, you only need Win 10 Pro and the lastest Win 10 edition (creators update)

@SrLocario When you say 'I install RemoteFC in my virtual machine...' Are you saying you install the RemoteFX service on the Hyper-V host, or you added the RemoteFX Virtual Video card to the Virtual Desktop? What make/model of video card do you have?

Hey thanks so much for the guide, I'm having trouble when it gets to installing the RemoteFx 3D display drivers. It installed something but when I go to device manager it says I have 2 unknown devices and under display adapters it says "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". I ran DirectX Diag on the Hyper-V host but there were no issues. I have a Phenom II X4 955 black with an XFX ATI HD5850. Any help would be great.

I found SoftXpand 2011 Duo and did what I was looking for. However it doesn't work with Nvidia Optimus notebooks. Tried the trial out on my desktop and worked great there.

was wondering if remoteFX was usefull for ppl that only needs to work with pdf/excel files or mails, the company i'm in is currently offering a TS gateway solution for their clients but it's slow as hell sometimes(on WDS2008R2), so i was looking for other solutions

Is it possible to do RemoteFX GPU rendering with Windows Multipoint Server 2011? Looking for a solution to play games using 1 pc with 2 monitors, 2 keyboards, and 2 mice.

"GPU At least one graphics processing unit (GPU) is required on the RemoteFX server. The GPU driver must support DirectX 9.0c and DirectX 10.0. If more than one GPU is installed in the RemoteFX server, the GPUs must be identical. The GPU must have sufficient dedicated video memory that is separate from system memory."

What version of RDP are you using? It has to be version 7.0 (Windows 7/Server 2008R2)

do i need windows server in order to use RemoteFX? all i want is my mouse to work properly in RDP on my beefy desktop so i can play games over RDP xD current state: mouse working but not in game movements like looking around -.-

I have nvidia 1080, but fps when playing extremely low (6-8) :( CPU E5-2630v3, RAM 64 GB, WinServer2008r2, RemoteFX. directx is work, fps same 6-8 FPS depends on the picture. For example, if the picture is dark and soapy (defocus camera), then the fps is high. Where is the bottleneck? I can not find ... I tried to reduce the quality of the picture in the parameters remotefx, it helps very little.

Hello I could follow you all the way. But I got a problem, I could not solve yet. At the End, when the RemoteFx Driver Adapter is installed I get the Message on die Virtual Machine Connection: The Virtual machine is currently using the RemoteFX 3D video Adapter. A user is currently connected via Remote Desktop. Connect to the virtual machine by using Remote Desktop Connection. But this doesn't work. I made sure, that the firewall let's throu the RemoteFX Connection as well as the Remote Desktop connection. I made a new User, with which I also couldn't get in to the remote Desktop connection. As soon as I deinstall the Remote FX Adapter does it work. If I reinstall it, it doesn't. I run Windows Server 2012 R2 and as VM Win 7 Ultimate with all Updates. Hoping you can help me. Thanks a lot.

2008 Release 2? You need RDP client version 6.1.7 or later. Locate mstsc.exe and check the version.

I tried this but when I install HV it disables EPT which is required for RemoteFX?!?!?!

EPT is in the BIOS, Windows has no way of disabling EPT/VT-x or AMD-V/SVM perhaps it was never enabled to begin with? What intel processor are you using?

VirtualizationGuy All sorted, i didnt realise the hypervisor turns the host into a vm thats why aida showd ept as not available, the test vm wouldnt start because of an unrelated issue.

When I enable this and try to conned with RDP I get "Because of a protocol error this session will be disconnected. please try connecting to the remote computer again." Is anyone else haveing this issue and is there a fix!!??

OpenGL does NOT work fine. RemoteFX is buit around DirectX, a Microsoft technology. OpenGL is not fully supported in RemoteFX. I have experienced poor results with OpenGL in RemoteFX sessions.

I also tried and OpenGL is indeed unusable.. Also when I connect to server 2008 directly dxdiag shows only Direct3D enabled and DirectX software close with error.. If I connect to VM with RemoteFX dxdiag shows everything enabled (Direct3D, DirectDraw..) and DirectX software runs fine, anyway not the transmission is not 100% fluid.. Next problem is that not all video ram is usable.. In conclusion RemoteFX is a piece of shit.. Nice try more luck next time :P
