I tried the liquid version of this Jasco premium paint remover on a lawn mover valve cover formed gasket. It doesn’t melt the gasket material but it releases it from the aluminum. I had to use a small wire brush. Amazing and thanks for the tip. Gloves should be used but the jasco makes them fall apart.

Since this video was posted, the EPA banned methylene chloride from paint strippers which was the magic sauce that made this work. Seems the new "safe" versions dont work nearly as well.

Lowes sells that stuff / brand in a square can. It’s like a thick gel, easy to dab on all around the gasket. I just used it a couple days ago on my Honda Goldwing the rear cover and case. It worked great, still had to get off as much thicker gasket as possible before applying the gel.

@@workharddieproud THANKS!!! I will get some and let it soak on it. I was checking the 'neutral safety switch screws on a older DR650 got all of the parts (just the gasket has been on there for 15 years low hour bike) - but did not want to ride it a lot until I checked it out.

@@mt1885 Your welcome, that stuff should work for you. It will soften up a gasket pretty quick.

Thank you very much for your tips. It did work for me. My lawn tractor LT1000 crankcase has a paper gasket. It's been 20 years and the gasket sticks to the case very hard. I thought I had to use a razor to remove it. Yesterday, I bought that paint remover. Not sure how long you had to wait but I applied the remover 3 times and waited for a total of 6-8 hours. My gasket did not come out as easy as yours. I would say mine is about 90% as easy as yours. Thanks again.

Thanks for the info'! I'm thinking about applying a little nail polish remover to the big o-ring gasket which presses my thermostat into the housing (then go to a pick). I went to change it today and it's melted tight to the housing. Would it be necessary to clean the surface with, say, brake clean after so that residual remover won't eat at the new one?
