I've never bothered to look it up for bench grinders, but I've seen quite a few folks with surface grinders have a wheel dressing tool that they will use regularly to keep the grinding wheels as true as possible. So I always figured there had to be something out there for the bench wheels. I am very impressed at the affordability, and like you, am wondering why I didn't already have one of these on hand. Thanks for the video and the link.

They work very well. I’ve had one for many years

Amazing, that works just as fast as a steel wheel dressing tool👍🏼 maybe a little faster, making a holder similar to a soapstone holder might prevent the vibration from breaking it in half 🤔💡

Chuck, you need a green wheel for carbide. BIG difference !

He might be referring to just tungsten for TIG welding electrodes, not tungsten carbide.

I knew a man who was killed by loading up a grinder with metal, it blew up and severed his jugular vein. No brass, aluminum, zinc, or other soft metals. The silica dust from grinding isn't healthy either.

Yeah! The dust cloud dude! Get the vacuum or your welding helmet power filter thingy, Before you dress a wheel. Inhalation of grinder wheel dust, sand blasting dust & concrete dust causes Silicosis, a horrible lung disease that is Not curable, but 100% Avoidable! We want you well for a long time, Stretch. Peace, Paul from S. Central Tx.

You should tighten the gap between the tool rest and the wheel, It should be 1/16"

Hello Chucky, You need to make a holder for the grinding wheel cleaner out of some 1" tubing.

I've been around bench grinders for decades, and I have NEVER seen grooves like those!!!🤯🤯 Granted, although our's have been heavily used, we have never been trying to sharpen or clean up tungsten and that type of stuff. Only basic steel. And in recent years, a tiny bit of aluminum. My grandpa, my dad, and then my high school metals shop teacher... always taught me to move the material across the wheel's front, instead of holding it in one place. With the idea, that by doing so, grooves would not be created in the grinding wheel. Is that not the way most people do it?🤷♂️

I think this is silicon (silicium) carbide, not diamonds

Dressing sticks are usually made out of a material called carborundum. Which according to the interwebz is silicon carbide. And yeah dressing grinding wheels is a good practice. Keeps your wheels true and sharp. I'm not a fan of star dressers myself but they may be Chucky's speed?

@@obamapox8185 what happens depends on many variables. One can safely assume that not breathing contaminants is preferable to breathing them though.

@@obamapox8185 I'm sure the dust hasn't killed Stretch yet. My grandma always said you have to eat two bushels of dirt before you die. So unless you want to live forever or just eat it all at once you have to get your daily requirement in every day!

It is made from silicon carbide as stated on the box it came in. So you could have used a part of an old silicon carbide grinding wheel to save you the bother. Or even better, change the wheels. Typical American.
