Hello Jeff, I forgot to put the website and the fix in the description. Please go there and get the information. If you need the springs, email me from the website, I have a few left. Cheers

Does Audi A8 D4 also uses a trunk lid motor of similar design or is there some other mechanism?

Late reply but it's a voltage sensor wire

There is no need to remove the bolt in the middle. Just the outer 2 bolts.

Did you figure out why it wasnt working? Mine does the same thing :-(

By the looks of that video the magnetic connection is used to prevent damage to the motor if the 'user' decides to put the boot down themselves. the magnet is weak so it isn't creating enough hold when its pulling the boot down via the motor. more voltage or new magnet would fix it. :D just saying

You're correct, if I use solder flux between the surface to produce more friction, it will work and the voltage is regulated, so increasing it is a problem. Anyhow, the design was bad with the low torque motor. The new motor with higher torque fixes this problem in the 08 or newer "H"

its the friction between the two parts metal builds up on the friction plates and so the magnet wont grip if that makes sence
