Good tip. Also remember after you unplug everything hold down the power button for 10 seconds, this will "empty" the power supply orlf any stored electricity. If you hear a click sound while doing it, thats perfectly normal !

Just to be sure, after unplugging the PC, press the power button again, that will discharge the capacitors. Otherwise there is always some rest electricity.

Always push the power button a few times after unplugging, to drain any capacitors, avoiding a short circuit when you start touching it.

if you have power status LEDs on any of your boards if they go out then it also means the system is "dead".

Keep the psu power cable pluged in but turn the psu off. That way you have a ground In case you are staticky you dont fry your motherboard

@@evanalhussein4548you do realize that the socket voltage is also always present when the PC is running??? Just by having it plugged in nothing will happen, on the contrary, it's safer. If you do get shocked by a plugged in and turned off PSU you should check your socket/PSU anyways.

Make sure to uninstall old drivers with DDU first! That way you have a clean install with the new GPU.

@@HarryOsirianon a first time build with fresh Windows install this step is completely obsolete. This is only necessary when switching to a different GPU especially when changing manufacturers.

Basic. However this is for someone who does not know yet and this is very helpful. Plain and simple instructions. Sometimes other people forget to unplug and that's where you get shocked sometimes tinkering with the chassis.

remember to hold the power button too! Unlikely but you can damage something with residual power like your gpu or motherboard, especially if it's older hardware.

@@thegrogster5 not even older hardware, i've used a lower end x470 board that without fail, each time I turned it off and flipped the psu switch then pressed the power button, it would light up for a second before going off. other boards i've used didn't have this problem, but obviously, it varies, and is advised to "drain the capacitors" when you turn off your pc before you work on it.

not true. Graphic drivers sit in the ssd/hdd. And it wouldn't matter, and why would you even want that? Then whoever is going to use it will have to re-update it...

​@NoodleAsian being an experienced pc builder, I can say with certainty: The old graphics drivers don't do anything, when you install the new drivers for the new gpu, the old drivers for the old gpu are deleted automatically.

It's a good idea to press the power button a few more times until the LEDs don't come on so that you can make sure all the power is drained so you don't damage any components

Been building pc for years now and this video was helpful to new users but there some small mistakes not very big ones. 1: remove cables on the back of the GPU. 2: when people is turned off hold the power button down for like 5 sec to make sure there no left over power. 3: Taking out the GPU need to be a bit slower you downt want to damage it with force. 4: Don't forget once the pc is powered back on update the drivers for the GPU you have got.

Pro tip: before replacing the gpu, run some super gpu intensive games and get your gpu to 70+ c. Once you do that immediately turn your pc off and replace the gpu while it’s hot. It’ll make your hands feel nice when you talk 70 degree metal.

After unplugging the power supply you could turn it on, press the power button to uncharge any still charged capacitors and then turn it off again, this makes it a tiny bit safer

before you do this. make sure to uninstall gpu drivers using ddu otherwise if you switch brands (nvidia to amd or vice versa) there are many side effects.

My be quiet dark rock 4 cooler is pretty beefy. Its really hard to push down the Pcie slot and you have to do it with a screw driver or something long and thin.

I was taught to never use a magnetic screw driver on a computer, and will not use 1 on any electronic item to this day. I have locking type screwdrivers that we used to use on point type ignitions in cars, and use those when I have a screw that may fall someplace bad

SOME GRAPHICS CARDS DONT AUTOMATICALLY INSTALL DRIVERS, depending on what graphics card you install, make sure to check your drivers, and if it does install them automatically, just do a quick update check

Please do a DDU clean and shutdown before upgrading to a new gpu. If you upgrade from let’s say a 1060 to a 1660 then it’s very important to do a ddu first. It’s a necessity when upgrading from NVIDIA to AMD

In what universe are you living that you think the PSU will blow up? If it is reaching power limits it'll simply shut off or reset. And who says the previous GPU used all the available power from the PSU???

@@aymanhariri2288 there is one way it can blow up. Ever had one with two switches on the backside? One for power and one to toggle from 230V to 110V mode. Well if it was plugged in recently never toggle that switch. It will pop.

I’d probably leave the power cable in but keep the psu switched off. That way you’re still connected to ground
