Thank you! We just had a flooding in our backyard due to a flash flood. We spent an hour using buckets to bail the water out on to the street from the yard. All this during the downpour and lightening. I found your review while looking for something to pump the water before the next downpour. Your review was great. It's exactly what I was hoping for. I'm going to home depot tomorrow to buy the pump plus the other things I didn't think about: extra extension cord, bucket, etc. Your bucket idea was brilliant. Thank you for creating this video review! It was so helpful

Hi Jonah, I am happy to read you liked the idea. I hope whatever you ended up doing worked for you. You can use any pump you want, just make sure it fits in the bucket with the hose attached first. Some pumps are more powerful and will work faster, but I have really enjoyed the simplicity of this water bug. Good luck and thanks for watching. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I think you just saved me $5K. Unknowlegdable widow here...I have water pool up on my patio in my back yard from running off my grass when it rains. Contractor gave me a bid of $4800 to install a sump pump in the yard and run 60 feet of piping down and out the yard to drain out front. I'm sure your bucket system here would do the trick.

it takes 6 hours in a atmospheric River cyclone like im having in the SF bay area right now, the back of my garage is a flood zone and i sorta trench diverted the water to the front and when its still raining heavy its literally an all day pumping process, i use harbor freights green Drummond pump, here's a secret i take some window screen and wrap it around the pump up to the neck then duck tape around and the window screen blocks out any rocks and debris, had my pump 5 winters and no clogs and no problems, just sit the pump on some odd shape objects about an inch off the Ground for full pump power, it still works on the bottom without any support. Just thought of something, you can wrap the window screen around your bucket and bungee tie it there or duct tape it, it will filter debris.

I considered buying the Waterbug bc it fit the bill--it drains to a 1/16", which is what I needed. My cement backyard patio has settled over the decades & collects rainwater in one corner, settling my foundation as well. The deal breaker was no auto-shutoff. I wanted to set it & forget it during rainy season. BTW, the bucket was an ingenious solution to the debris prob. So simple yet elusive a solution. It was a "duh" moment for me. Thxs. Now if u or some1 can suggest a pump that goes to 1/16" & has auto-shutoff I'd appreciate it. I research & this is a close as I came.

Thanks, they loved playing in the rain while I made the video. They are only small little helpers for a short time, so I am glad I get to teach them all these different things. Goal of my channel is to make a lot of videos to help them do these things on their own when the get older.

The description of the water bug says 1/8” of surface water; yet you went a bucket down. Wads the pump pressure sufficient enough to handle the volume of water? My hose would have to run uphill towards the street. How would that effect the pump action? Thank you.

Can’t say for 100% certainty, why I used a drilled bucket. Just keep an eye on it and listen for the motor running dry if clogged. Good luck sir

Nice video! Just got me one as well! Question? So how deep can the water go on the Waterbug? Waterline can go all the way to which point before it becomes not safe?
@EarnestProductions
@EarnestProductions 4 жыл бұрын
The pump can be fully submerged, I do it all the time in my rain barrel to pump out the water and water my plants after long dry spells. As for how long low the waterline can go, it can pretty much go until it is flat to the ground (1/6 of an inch). Mine has run for about 30 seconds with no water pumping and has been fine, but you could burn out the motor. I wouldn’t recommend doing that much.

Nice to see your Lil helpers but always be careful when around electricity. Should be on GFI outlet. You could pour a small square concrete vault inside use a 5 gallon bucket. Run 1 inch pvc through wall of vault. Leave male fitting to hook up sump pump. Use union fittings to hook up pump in case you need to replace some day.Run electric through vault also on GFI protected breaker. Be sure to get lowest spot in yard.

I bought one of these last year after three days of torrential rain in South Florida. My neighbor also ran his at the same time. Our flooding didn’t look as bad as yours but it seemed to take a long time for us to remove the water. Are you using a standard hose? I’m now considering upgrading to a 1/2 hp pump with a bigger hose to move the water more quickly.
@EarnestProductions
@EarnestProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeremy, yes I am using a standard hose and it takes some time for sure, but I was trying to do a video with items that were around the house. A bigger pump and diameter hose would definitely remove water way faster.

I have the same pump and mine pumps out like 3x faster maybe the bucket causes a flow restriction?
@EarnestProductions
@EarnestProductions 3 жыл бұрын
It is constantly filled with water, so that wouldn’t be it. Wouldn’t be any different if it was on a basement floor, the unit is still surrounded 360° by water imo.

Thanks! Kids love when our backyard flood but to me it is a headache. We lived here for 15th years and just this year my backyard has started to flood after some huge rainfalls. I think a result of global warming. :(

Correction. More accurately, I need a pump that actuates when the level is 1/8" or lower. I can't have sit idle til an inch or more starts the pump. By then I have water going under the house.
