REMOVE THIS PLUG - before draining hydraulic fluid on Hustler Raptor SD mower

This is a quick tip showing the location of a plug that needs to be removed before draining the hydraulic fluid on a Hustler Raptor SD zero-turn riding lawnmower. It isn't a step by step fluid change. If you don't remove this plug, the fluid will not drain out. This is my first video so I apologize for the quality. This was an assignment for an online class I was taking. I had to use Microsoft Movie Maker and it had to be under 5 minutes. I had to increase the speed to 1.1x to meet the time requirements for the assignment, thus the sudden voice change. You will need an allen wrench with a long handle as there is very little room to work and significant torque is required to break the initial bond of the plug.

+discerningmind Did you take the time to read what I posted about this video? This was a homework assignment. I went over the most important part (removing the plug pointed out in the video). Most people know how to remove an oil filter and watching oil drain is kind of boring. Maybe I should have named it "Homework Assignment". Would that make you happy?

Yes,🌼 allabout.wiki/Hustler the bag fills up pretty quickly when there are lots of leaves and I guess that is expected. It is quick to take the leaf catching bag off and put it back on. There is one bar with rubber ends that fits into a slot (bottom), one bar with angled ends that hangs on rubber hooks (top), and two stretchy loops that each hang on a rubber hook (one each side). You can hold the leaf catching bag with one hand full and not drop any leaves. It is NOT easy to empty it into a lawn bag without spilling. My trick: I put two lawn bags side-by-side in a large garbage bin and emptied the leaf catching bag into them. What spills falls into the garbage bin. 90% of the leaves end up in the bags this way with 0% back on the lawn.

You said to remove the plug before refilling the system with oil. Do you put the plug back in immediately after refilling the oil and before purging the system?

Hey Steve, thanks for taking the time to post your video on changing the hydro oil in the Hustler Raptor SD mower. Your pointing out the importance of removing the plug BEFORE refilling was most helpful and is something that should have been covered in the owners manual IMO. I do have one question on removing the plug. As I'm sure you are well aware, the plug is not all that easy to access to and I'm having difficulty finding a tool to remove them. It appears that the plug requires an allen wrench to remove it and requires a certain amount of torque to replace it. What tool did you use to remove and replace the plug. Thanks again for the video.

Thanks Ron. The reason I pointed out the plug was to prevent what happened to me from happening to someone else. I never could get the fluid to drain and nobody at the dealership told me about the plug. I used an L-shape allen wrench with a hollow pipe for length and torque. Sorry for the delay in responding.

Yes, a fastrak will need hydro fluid changes. Read your manual.

ok, so per the owners manual: The hustler fastrak is equipped with two hydro-gear EZT integrated pump/motor transmissions, The EZT integrated pump/motor transmissions are sealed for life and do not require any scheduled service.??

Hey Louis. As I mentioned in the intro this was a school assignment that had to be under 5 minutes. Notice the voice change, I speeded it up to make the video shorter. In my opinion the diagram pointed to what I considered most important because unless you loosen the plug the oil doesn't drain completely. That's what I would take from the video. Its not a step by step.

So where is the actual video of you draining the old hydraulic fluid, removing both the hydraulic filters, replacing the hydraulic filters and then replacing the hydraulic fluid???? That was the MAIN part ..... how dumb to NOT show what you actually did (if you even did it).
